Dry Skin Hello! So my 1 year old yorkie named Stella has for some months now had very dry and flaky skin on her hind quarters. I have tried everything to get rid of it. From changing her diet to cutting down on baths... Also I have tried fish oil. I tried putting a little baby oil on it even. I stopped with the fish oil because i thought it might be upsetting her tummy. Any way i am about to try Florazyme EFA and see if that helps. What also bothers me is that where her dry skin is her hair is considerably thinner. The groomer was surprised by how thin it was and ho:confused her hair length wasn't very long at a year old. Anyway, does anyone else have this problem? What can help it to get better and to thicken up her hair? I think i caused her problem by over bathing her when she was younger. I did it because she would get stinky all the time from getting pee on her and things like that. I really don't think it is food allergies because i switched her food and have seen no super obvious improvement. Thanks so much for any help!:confused::confused::confused: |
Hi there, I have no advice but can empathise. Alfie isn't six months yet and he has gone completely bald on his back legs, then has had terrible rashes. I am attending the vet every 2 weeks and nobody can figure it out. Right now he is on a White fish and rice dry food with no pork, wheat, egg or dairy and that is all e is getting. The only constant ingredient has been rice so next step is a grain free salmon and potato food. Other things I have tried are Changed to a non bio washing liquid Used both ale Vera and then coal tar based doggie shampoos (can't seem to find oatmeal shampoo here) Added doggie cod liver oil to his dry food Used a hypoallergenic spray cleaner to clean up his occasional little pee accidents Use only the tiniest spot of cleaner in my mop bucket for all wooden floor I hope you can find out the problem and solution and please share it with me if you do. Latte seems to have some skin issues also... Vet and I are still working to figure out the exact cause. She told me to try Allermyl instead of the scented shampoo and conditioner that I have been using on him. I'm also in the process of mixing and switching to salmon and potato food. The vet recommended that I give him supplements that contains linoleic acid. It is supposed to help dry skin and skin allergy a lot. She says that many dogs show improvement after getting more linoleic acid though different dogs react differently. I just started giving it to Latte a day ago, so I can't really tell if it's making a difference. But I'm putting it out here, since maybe it's worth a try. |

Riley had dry skin while on Acana... the vet suggested giving him fish oils. I was giving him Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet. I still wasn't helping all that much. Then Acana changed their formula and he really started having issues. He would get little dark round dry spots and some red on my tummy area. I switched him to Canine Caviar and haven't had Any Issues whatsoever since. Here is a before and after.. The After is only 7-days After switching to Canine Caviar. He is now completely 100% Clear and has been eating it for almost 6-months, now. |
I have been looking and looking and can't find an international supplier for Canine Caviar I have even contacted them directly but got no reply. If the next food doesn't get us anywhere I will need to get it shipped to UK. After that I think the only other thing to try is moving my birds to my daughters house to see if that has any impact. |
