Royal Canin:::How much to feed How much should I feed my Yorkshire Terrier~? According to the package of Royal Canin, it says: 8lb: lean/1 cup normal/1 cup overweight/3/4 cup 10lbs: lean/1-1/4 cup normal/1 cup overweight/1 cup My Yorkshire Terrier is between 8-10 lbs, like 8.5-9.? And recently I switched him from Natural Balance, which say to feed: 10lbs or less:1/2-1 cup I just called the Vet (which is on call 24/7, but is Emergencies now) and Vet Tech (or whatever she is) didn't know and I should call back in the am. I'm just wanting opinions cause the Royal Canin bag is small compared to the Natural Balance and it is going down quickly. I give him a small scooper which is perhaps 1/4-1/3, but he seem hungry and I gave him an extra scoop for dinner. So what's your opinion~? Any of you all feed Royal Canin~? How much~? I'll call tomorrow but just curious since both packages have different info. Also, my dog isn't the type to eat much normally and difficult to get him to eat most of the time. |
I'd feed him 1/3 cup 3xdaily, or 1/2 cup 2x daily, unless he's overweight, or starts to lose weight, then adjust it accordingly. |
I am a bad one to ask as we free feed. We keep food in their bowl and when they are hungry they eat. I am just now switching over from Royal Canin to Halo - Spot's Stew dry kibble. Izzy seemed to be itching a lot and I read somewhere (probably here) about others having issues with itching and Royal Canin. So far the transition is going well and Izzy doesn't itch as much as she did before. |
We switched from royal canine to canine caviar..when we were feeding royal canine, we gave jasmin 1/3 cup twice a day. She was 6 lbs at the time. Royal canine is expensive and runs out fast. One bag must have lasted us only about 2 weeks. |
I feed ZoE Royal Canin. She gets a 1/3 cup, three times a day. Some days she eats it all, others she doesn't. It depends on how active she is. |

Jackson is 16lbs and he gets about 2/3 cup per day (1/3 AM, 1/3 PM). He gets some treats for training and chews etc too. Quote:
That's like almost $7/lb for the small bag. :eek: And still $4/lb for the 10lb bag. If I'm doing the math correctly in my head? You can get other really top notch well researched brands for $3 or less per pound. Annamaet for example, you can get for around $1.65/lb. Solid company, very well respected in the industry. Dr Tims, same thing, somewhere around $1.30/lb. $2.60/lb for Fromm Gold. And they are very comparable (better IMO). |

I look at the overall cost of upkeep, and whether it's per week or per month, it's minimal. Not eating out myself just one night in the week, not buying a cappacinos, or a couple of pops from the vending machine at work, and there's the money it takes to feed ZoE. So little of the monthly budget & she's more than worth it. |

I am a huge RC fan....I have fed it for many, many years...and while it is expensive, my peace of mind is very expensive too, and I can nOT be worrying about dog food recalls....I would just die if I went to less expensive food and a year later, after all were well on the food and all their little organs were affected, it was nailed causing illness in dogs....sooooooo, I bite the bullet and remind myself the extra expense covers the salaries of all those researchers and quality control managers, running around, keeping everything on the up and up. |

These are companies that make foods on the basis of science (similar to RC), have the ability to test the products in house or through a network of serious kennels and have legitimate professional/competitve users (sled dogs, hunting dogs, etc). They all have someone that has a history of competition, has published legitimate researcher or in the medical professional of some kind. I've learned about these brands recently- and am very interested in them! Of course, they are not usually in "big box stores" so they are a bit harder to find. But you can find them all for less than $2-3 a pound. :) |

I am feeding Fromm Gold Adult now - I think I'm liking it better than the Four Star line at the moment! His eye boogers have almost gone away that he was getting on the grain inclusive Fromm Four-stars. And he's been eating it up like crazy. I couldn't get him to eat any other food as good as he has the Fromm. He really loves it. So I decided I'd just deal with a little eye boogies. However they've been gone since starting the Gold. We have a 4lb bag of the Fromm Beef GF for treats and to use in his toy puzzles (like the Kong Wobbler etc). :) Ps- I really wish they would come out w/ Fromm Classics in a smaller bag! |
