Biting Himself I dont know if this is normal -- Teddy has always bit his paws but lately hes been biting his tail and like licking the hair on the tip of his tail. I dont know if tthis is normal. THe area isnt sore or anything but i was wondering if anyone elses yorkie does this or if i should be worried? |
Food allergies can sometimes cause a dog to excessively bite/lick themselves (especially on the paws). Usually the corn or grain in the food is the culprit. What kind of dog food are you feeding him? Not rinsing the shampoo/conditioners off of him well enough when bathing can cause him to itch. There may be some type of cleaner you're using on the floors that might be irritating his paws. He could have a couple fleas. The hair between his toes could be too long and it's itching him. It could just be a bad habit he's taken to. There's a lot of reasons he could be doing this. All dogs are going to itch themselves (everybody gets an itch every now and then!) but if he's sitting there licking & biting for any length of time, I'd probably take him to the vet to rule out any kind of health problem. It could be a skin condition that requires treatment, or it could be something as simple as rinsing an extra few seconds while bathing! |
I have tile floor and I was washing it with a Pine cleaner and it really caused a couple of my dogs big problems. Stomaches broke out with a rash and the constant licking of the paws. I now have to use Ivory on the floor and I switched to Innova Evo and their problems stopped. Good Luck trying to solve your problem. |
hes eating pedigree puppy bites mixed with cesars. i dont know if this food is bad or what would cause this. he has short hair and we checked for fleas.... i think my best bet would be to take him to the vet. thanks -=) |
