Does anyone elses Yorkie have IBS? Hello friends! I believe Strudel has IBS, he gets an upset tummy if he gets a hold of any food that is not his prescription Science Diet food. Does anyone else's Yorkie have this issue? After going to the doctor many many many times to test for parasites, pancreatis, and worms every test has come back negative so the doctor and I have come to the conclusion that he has IBS. I really want to switch his food but I am so afraid of another flare up. He has been doing so good for so long now. If you have a Yorkie with IBS what do you feed him? Also what treats do you feed? I only give Strudel his food for treats (which he actually likes) again because I am afraid to upset his tummy. I feel like he is missing out :( |
Does he get an upset stomach when he eats 'any' other food or just too much of any other food? You have to change slowly when you make a diet change. What symptoms or issues does he have to make you think he has IBS and what tests have been done to confirm it? |
Sounds just like Tibbe. I'm afraid to change him off his Hill's I/D GI because he's always grazing and getting hold of something and then has some spit up, beginning RS and belching. I make his treats from his Hill's I/D, soak the food, then microwave it for about 20 mins., dry it and give each piece as a treat. He will kill to get that stuff - acts like it is French truffles or something. So I don't think he feels cheated but I wish I could feel secure enough to transition him to regular food as that Hill's I/D is prescription and must have/lack something in it dogs probably do/don't need over the long term - else why have it prescription? Anyway, he's not feel well right now, he's restless, has loud tummy sounds, actual did a short RS a bit ago and spit up some yesterday. He just keeps me worried all the time. I'm always taking him to the vet, I get so scared. I feel for you and understand how wearing it is to always be worried about them. I imagine it's no fun for them to have that much trouble, poor little guys. |

Is the food you're feeding canned or dry? If it's canned you can slice it and cut each slice into quarters and bake them in the oven to make crunchy treats. It seems to me it was at 375 for...gosh, I don't remember how long but until they are crunchy. Boog used to have to eat that food and he loved those treats...and, yes, the house stunk to high Heaven but it was all he could have so that's what I did. The neighbors thought I was strange with the windows open in the dead of winter! |

Does he reverse sneeze or act like he is going to during his bouts? I think the vet said it is reflux causing the pharyngeal irritation that can trigger the RS. Tibbe usally doesn't fully reverse sneeze just acts like he's starting to and doesn't except he did just while ago for one or two seconds. The gas and loud sounding tummy and RS all seem to go together. I give him the Famotidine that usually helps with the RS. Thing is he usually eats almost normally through these bouts. I felt and heard a real rumble in his little tummy just now and he jumped at the same time, almost as if he were going off the couch. So that gas is painful. I gave him a dose of his Simethicone for that just now. Poor little guy. |
I will have to ask about those medicines. He does RS but most yorkies do, it doesn't seem to have any barring on his bouts of sickness though. |

Not worth the risk. I/d give this one food and the baked canned as treats. Your pup will be ok with it.:) |
Hi there, my Petey has been diagnosed with IBS and was on antibiotics for a week to hopefully heal and help the inflammation, his poops where finally getting back to normal and his stomach bloating went back to normal so the vet said he looks good, but if his diarrhea came right back after 1 day off antibiotics,so the vet refilled the meds for another 2 wks., he also is taking Florentero Tabs to help keep the good bacteria up. I've tried many foods and he's just been switched slowly to.... GO!, Sensitive-Shine, by Summit a Canadian company, it's a Duck with 0% Beef,Corn,Soy and Wheat...but as soon as he had his 1st %100 meal of it last night his belly went nuts and he threw up (antibiotics too) and had a real bad diarrhea in the middle of the night. He was first on Canadian Chicken by Summit and he had no problems, then all the sudden he started getting diarrhea so I slowly switched him to NOW! Grain Free, it made a small change but not enough to make his tummy calm down so switched to the Duck Sensitive,it didn't really help either, The Vet said he's got a bad bug in his belly, and changing his food probably adding to the problem... Help!!! |
My Rosie has it. Any changes causes major issues. She eats Science Diet I/D and I home cook for her. She has been much better since we have been on this diet! I have tried to change her foods in the past but it hasn't ever worked out well. So home cooking and I/D it is. As far as treats, I give her home made dog treats but that's it If you would like recipes send me a pm. |
