How often to feed a 6 month pup? Teeka is 3lbs 4ozs and is 6 months......I have been feeding her 3 times a day for a while. I would like to cut it to twice a day. Do you think this is wise or should I wait until she is older? If so, at what age? I can't leave her food out because the other dogs would gobble it right down! |
My dogs are free fed and that has worked very well for me, I would worry about her sugar dropping if food was not offered 3 to 4 times a day, since she is so small and cannot eat that much at a time...good luck |
She has never had a problem with her blood sugar dropping. Do you think 3# is small? She feels heavy and is stocky, compared to the 1 1/2# when she first came home! |
If you can't free feed I personally would still do three times a day until shes a year old. |
I fed Toki three times a day until she started losing interest in her second and third meals and then I cut it down to two meals. She has been eating two meals a day since she was 4 or 5 months or so. I'd try to see how your pup does if you split her meals to 2x a day(if she eats more ravenously at meals or has a change in behavior or something like that). Three pounds is kind of small (Toki was nearly 3 pounds already when I brought her home) so I'd be sure to monitor your pup closely for any changes if you switch up her feeding schedule. Good luck! Keep us posted! |
Thank you for all the input! I will give it a trial to see if she thinks she is starving in between or if she gets shaky! |
