Do you Add Salmon Oil to your Dogs Diet ? I just recently started adding Grizzly Salmon Oil in the plastic bottle.. After reading some articles on how the oil could possibly break down from being stored in plastic i did some research and found this, which i will be ordering next... I especially like how the product is packaged and the price is awesome :) Iceland Pure Salmon Oil (33 oz) |
We tried ONCE..... it was way too rich for our Yorkies and it made them feel bad. The food that we feed has it in it..... and a groomer at the shop where we go (who shows dobermans and is a "food expert" in my book) said that it probably was an overkill because we already give them plenty with the food they get. You may want to check what is in the food you give to see if it really necessary. |
No but I use Nordic naturals fish oils in a therapeutic dose. If you feed commercial food, there's no need to add additional fat like salmon oil to it. |
I haven't had to add anything at all since Riley has been eating Canine Caviar. When eating the Acana his skin was extremely Dry. I would then add Nordic Naturals Omega-3 Pet per my Vet. If you are feeding a good commercial food, you shouldn't have to add anything. |
I do...to the home cooked evening meal :) |

That Icelandic Salmon Oil looks good and I like how they say that it doesn't smell fishy! It's not a major concern (and nothing that can't be fixed with a warm washcloth) but kinda unpleasant that Toki's beard always smells funky after meals with the salmon oil...ick! |

yes, i bought the 16 oz bottle of Nutrisea Salmon Oil so i dont have it too long feeding it to 3 dogs.. it is not fishy smelling either ..my vet says it is very good for dry skin and itchys.. i also store mine in the fridge.. |
Does the fish oil make your pups breath stinky? I know someone who squirts some onto their dogs food, and they come over afterwards and try to kiss you, and it stinks! lol. That's the main reason I never bought any to squirt on his food. Plus he doesn't really have skin issues so I never saw the point. |

i get the salmon oil not the fish oil caps and it does not smell at all... |
The Grizzly Salmon Oil definitely stinks (maybe I just have a super sensitive nose)! Keeping it in the fridge helps keep the smell down when I put it on kibble initially but Toki's beard just absorbs the odor and once the oil has warmed up, gah!! ...her breath might stink for a very short time immediately after eating but it goes away quickly. The major stink is if any of the oil gets on the face. Totally worth using it though since it helps Toki's dry skin tons! |

yeah, i read that it depends on the brand that you buy... some just smell more than others :) |
Where can I buy the Nutrisea Salmon Oil? |

NutriSea NutriSea Wild Salmon Oil |
I use (off and on) Ark Naturals Royal Coat...it has some extra E already in it (to process the Omega oils) and it has more types of essentials and non-essentials than many other oils for dogs. |
