Breath still stinks after dental What gives? First Scrappy and now Lily. Uni's breath stinks too, but she's never had a dental, but her teeth are still pretty white. I don't remember Smokey or Chloe's breath to be so stinky after they had their dental. I asked the vet and he said if you feed them good food with yogurt/probiotics, etc it should help, but I do! Do your yorkie's breath stink after dental? |
I am having a similar problem. Cali just had a dental a few months ago and already she has halitosis. I have tried everything. I will go back to the vet for her titters and plan to ask. When I talked with the vets they just said some of the little dogs have that perpetual problem. I'm having trouble with that - her teeth are good and we brush and I have not changed her food, so I can't figure it out. |
Not us. Two of my dogs had dentals 6 months ago and neither one of them have bad breath. |
Troy had a dental in September/October sometime. His teeth are pearly white, but I notice that if I don't stay on top of brushing that stinky smell returns. Our vet says this is common among small mouthed dogs because sometimes left over food gets caught in the nooks and crannies, so it rots leaving bacteria to grow and sticky nasty puppy breath. I think if you keep up with a teeth cleaning regimen that smell should go away. It helps for us. |
How often should you clean a yorkie puppy's teeth? |
When Jada had her long beard her face would get stinky, and at first I thought it was her mouth. Bogie has never had stinky breath. |

Just like humans, dogs can have bad breath for reasons other than dirty or rotten teeth: gastro problems, sugar levels, and dry mouth. |
Another thing I discovered last month was if their anal glands need to be expressed it can affect their breath. Ruby had god awful breath and was licking at her back end a lot. Once the glands were expressed...she wasn't licking and the smelly breath went away! |
Diet plays a major roll in how the breath smells if there are no dental problems! If you have no interest in feeding real food, ask those that just posted about their dogs not having bad breath, what they are feeding. |
