Bully Sticks = Diarrhea Has anyone else experienced this with their yorkies who have consumed bully sticks ? Oscar got serious diarrhea after eating his first bully stick, poor baby. Poor little guy cannot have treats without problems.... |
Poor baby:( Mine never got diarrhea, but they make such a mess of their beards when I give them bully sticks, I just quit letting them have them. Prayers that Oscar is feeling better today. |
oh yes!!! I received bully sticks as a gift and all three of mine were so sick. I will say they tend to have sentivite tummies... but I had to throw away the bully sticks because it was really bad:( |
Mine get bully sticks all the time here. Make sure the ones you give are from the USA. I get mine from bestbullysticks.com. |
Awwwhhh, poor baby boy! I can't say my Boo is having any problems and I let him chew twice a day for an hour (can't take the smell any longer than that quite frankly! LMAOOO!). I give his little beard a little brushing at the end of the day in case it needs it...which it usually does. He seems to have a strong tummy...haven't found anything that gives him diarreah yet and my boy eats people food, for the most part (Grandma Lucy's dehydrated dog food. You have to reconstitute it), and I mix it with quite a bit of veg and fruit and berries to fill his tummy up without letting him get fat (cus he's a pig and would eat and eat and eat and eat till it came up!). So, yea...he has eaten everything so far except prunes and all other things that are not meant for canines... |
I have found on the rare occasion that Wallee does chew his bully sticks his stools get very loose. And he doesn't chew them for very long so I am sure if he was a chewer like your little one he would probably get that too. |
Teeka loves bully sticks and has no problems with sensitivities to them. We have RedBarn Bully Sticks from PetSmart. Hope he feels better soon! |
I've definitely noticed that Toki has softer stools when she chews on a bully stick for too long. I think it is from consuming too much of it at one time so I try to limit her time chewing. She doesn't ever get diarrhea from bully sticks though |
Never for Jackson. But overall he doesn't really have a sensitive tummy. Back when he was younger, I used to give him one a day. He'd usually get it down about 4" per day. So he was eating 4" of bully stick each day with no issues. I fed other foods accordingly and would feed less. The bestbullysticks ones have 12 calories per inch. The main reason I don't give them as much now is simply cost.... I got sick of paying so much for them, but I will still occasionally buy a bulk order and give him two or so a week. But he's a dog who NEEDS to chew something, or he'll drive me crazy, so I got Himalayan Chews which last a lot longer but unfortunately, he doesn't really like to chew them and mostly ignores them. I also do stuffed Kongs. |
Yep, my Zoe can't have them either. So I threw away the ones I had. My neighborhood three dog bakery makes a bone that she can chew on that works for her so that is what she now gets. |
Joeys only had Merrick Bully sticks and never has diarrhea, even my sensitive little Ralhpie can eat them without getting diarrhea. What kind are you giving them? I've read other brands don't always process them right, they don't have preservatives, so it's really important how they dry them, no shortcuts must be taken. There is at least one brand that has preservatives, and someone here said her dog got sick with them, but the stick had expired, so if you brand does have preservatives make sure you use them before expiration date. |
i am not sure of the bran but it was made in the usa. i bought it at the pet store . i am not going to take a chance and give it again.. i will stick with the elk antlers, he likes those too... |
Bullies along with all other animal based chews are fairly likely to be full of bacteria. Clostridium, salmonella, even MRSA has been reported. Diarrhea is no surprise. I'd throw them out. |

Those were the ones that made Jackson throw up once. They are sold in a lot of stores. I don't like Red Barn. |
Yes I've had issues. Not worth the risks. |
