Food and teeth
 
I just had a couple quick questions for you guys. My Yorkie "Alex" looks like he has "double teeth" in his canines. Is this normal? Or should I get it looked at or will they fall out or what? Also, does anyone else feed their baby Science diet? That's what he has been on and he's always hurting his front arms by sliding on the wood floors. He's only 6 mo. so still kind of clumsy. We took him to the vet one day to have him looked at cause he was crying too much for me and he said that he just pulled some soft tissue. He also said he has alot of soft tissue in his arms. Do you think it's the dog food or why is he always getting hurt in his tissue there? Thanks alot in advance!

Welcome to YT. Any pics of Alex? Your vet can pull the double canines when you got him neuter. Gucci had her four baby canine pulled when she was spayed. Gucci eats Canidae dry food and Innova wet. I don't like Science diet cause the first ingredient is corn. A good dog food should have a meat or meat meal as the first ingredients and don't contain by-products. I don't know if the food has to do with his soft tissues injuries. I will have him check by a vet.

I would recommend having those teeth pulled out. They will leave a bigger gap when you removed them later.

Real Quick, what kinds of dog food does everyone suggest. I use science diet.... but I want the best! Thanks,

Chelsea you will find a boat load of opinions on feeding. Just go to search and type in "dog food" and you will have so many threads to read!

Everyone has their own preferences. Basically trying to avoid cheap fillers and chemical additives is a good way to start. Getting your dog to enjoy their food is half the battle.

This part of your message bothered me. I have tile through out my house as many members do and my gang really roughhouse and no one has had these problems. Is he jumping down from the couch/bed? This is a No No, He is crying because he is in pain? Something doesn't sound right to me. He shouldn't be always hurting his legs because he is sliding. What exactly did your vet do with him when he examined him? just feel his legs? Yorkies are prone to some problems that could be your problem. Are you comfortable with your vet? Have you studied some of the issues Yorkies have and tried to compare them to your baby? You might want to do some research on YT for LP or goggle the internet. I honestly do not think food will correct this problem.

Cindy, Yes we are very comfortable with our vet. He's been our familys vet since I was very young. He took x-rays, let us see them, there was nothing wrong and gave us some medicine and told us to call in 5 days to see how he is doing. He's a very good vet. I asked him if he would always have this problem because our Irish Setter hurt his leg when he was young and has had problems ever since, but the vet said no, he shouldn't always have this problem. He got better quickly with the medicine but sometims when we play he slides his leg out pretty far and cry and hold up his arm. Vet said too much fatty foods is causing him to pull this soft tissue because there is so much of it. At least thats the way I understood it. So science diet is ok? and is 16 mo too late to get his double teeth pulled? Thanks alot!
