Does Dog Food Go Bad? spoil? lose its nutritional value? anything? |
I'm would think that it could spoil, xspecially the ones with less preservatives, and I know it goes stale, If my cat's food is out too long he won't eat it. He'd starve first. Bailey on the other hand would eat ANYTHING. Spoiled/ rotten/ whatever. |
I'd think if you didn't have it in direct sunlight and vaccume sealed it, it should be okay. |
I'm pretty sure most bags have a use by date on them. Usually its about a year. |
Yes dog food can go bad. Rancid would be the word. The high end less preservatives in it stuff faster. The low quality stuff will stay around a very long time as it mostly preservatives. If it does not smell fresh but sour and makes you want to toss your cookies pitch it. Joy |
Wellness causing diahrrea? Has the Wellness puppy food (chicken & rice) caused anyone else's baby diahrrea? Rocky has been eating this for the past week and he's had diahrrea. We gradually switched him from the old food (Eukanuba Lamb & Rice for puppy) because I thought Wellness was a better product. But, I'm concerned about him having loose stool after eating Wellness. Anyone else have this issue? |
I dont know if the hard goes bad however we vacuum seal ours and our dogs eat it up like they do when you open a fresh bag. |
I always kept my kibble in the fridge, dont know if it helped or not. |

Yes it can go rancid. I buy the smallest bag (5 pounds) because it takes Loki nearly 8 weeks to eat that. I also wash the container before adding his new food. Rocky: Wellness IS a better food but there could be something in it that your pup may be sensitive to. You never know. Compare the ingredients and see if there is something that stands out to you. We think Loki is allergic to beef - any beef treats, bully sticks, etc. caused diarhea but we're still not sure exactly what caused all of his diahrea issues. We had tummy issues until we switched him Canidae. Canidae has pro-biotics in it, which I guess helps their little tummies. Loki can eat things now that would make him sick before, like cheese. We still are strict about table food but he truly has improved. Canidae sent us literally 2 weeks worth of samples. It was awesome. |
