Blue compared to RC puppy food? Well, I decided to switch Teeka to Grain-free Blue Basics puppy food. I am beginning the process of gradually adding Blue to her RC food. I am hoping it is a better quality food than what she was started out on at the breeders. Any opinions on Grain-free Blue Basics? |

blue buffalo is an excellent food.. i am glad you are doing a gradual change. that is so important when switching foods.. i hope she does well on it...:) |
I started my Colby on Royal Canin and switched him over to Blue gradually too... no issues except he's not CRAZY about the food. he'll eat when he feels like it but doesn't necessarily get super excited about feeding time. I'm planning on trying something else soon |
Whether it is a better food is a matter of opinion. IMO, RC is a much better company with extensive QC. I'd stay with it unless there is a problem. |
She is scratching a lot, I thought a grain free food was worth a try. I am still inclined to think her scratching is from the dry cold air and not allergies or sensitivities to grains. Just want to try it on her as our other 2 dogs are on Blue, too! Of course, she is still on puppy food. |
I think grain free is always better |

Formulas have been researched and scientifically designed to produce evidenced based outcomes....and the quality control is second to none. But everyone has their own markers for what they want to feed. That is why your breeder chose RC. She no doubt has her ladies on the correct formula for breeding, whelping, and then formulas specifically designed for the best outcomes for her puppies. My ladies are on a specific formula from pregnancy thru whelping, which I was thrilled to hear Dr.Greer, (the reproductive vet expert that gave the webinar to breeders on Sunday about managing our brood bitches) champion as a wonderful, sound nurtitional food, developed specifically to meet all the requirements of the pregnant bitch, the developing babies, all the way thru whelping and lactation. |
Always possible, but very, very, very unlikely for a young pup to have food allergies. True allergies are a response to proteins. So while dogs can be allergic to grains bc they contain protein, avoiding grain is not always necessary. |
