BARF diet questions After reading numerous threads about people feeding a BARF diet I went online and found out what a BARF diet is. Is there a specific book or website you used to learn more about a BARF diet and how to prepare foods? If you think your baby has an allergy to chicken, can you still do a BARF diet? I know chicken is the easiest ingredient to find but not sure what else I could substitute that would be healthy and fairly easy to find. Other than food, what else do you add to a BARF diet? (vitamins, flax seed?) Do you supplement a meal with a dry kibble? Any help or ideas that are offered I would appreciate. |

There are other commercially prepared raw diets available too. I want mine on raw but I want to be sure they are getting everything they need, that's why I went with the already prepared diet. |
I have thought about frozen raw but the BARF diet intrigued me since I had never heard of it before. You are right about finding Natures Variety in Decatur.......that's not going to happen. |

I've been to the place in Springfield. I thought it was a store but it's out of a woman's house. It kind of freaked me out. |

I found a lot through various other boards. My cat was on raw a year before we got Zeus. I follow the 80-10-5-5 formula (80% meat, 10% bone, 5% liver, 5% other organs). Uncooked bones are fine to feed as long as they are the appropriate size. My boys eat Cornish hen and quails and sometimes chicken wings and necks. I mix and match meat which is called frankenprey. If you have a marketplace that sells multiple meats, absolutely it's ok! Although its very rare for a dog be allergic to meat, it does happen and many raw feeders are fine. You can pm me for the board I like the most - I don't think it's allowed to post it? |

I've tried everything from all the kibbles available to home-cooking to BARF and finally to the species appropriate whole prey raw diet. I finally found something that really works, for the dogs and for me, and I'll never feed anything else again. This type of diet also has behavioural advantages because the dogs are more satisfied and tired out by their food. I'm a member of a few raw feeding groups that offer great support, information and advice. You can PM me if you're interested. |
