Is Teeka too thin? Wondering if Teeka is too thin? She weights 2lbs 15ozs. and stands @ 7 ins. shoulder to floor. She get 1/3 cup daily of RC and sometimes a little canned food mixed in. She is barely 5 months and looks leggy and thin. Just wondering what others think! |
hi, well it is really hard to say. a lot depends on the body structure of the dog.. if you think she is too thin probably the best would be is to ask your vet....:) |
That would probably be the best way, except I don't have plans on taking her in until she is 6 months to get her rabies vaccine. She had a big growth spurt during her 4th month and she really stretched out both height and length wise. Now she looks thin to me. When I bathe her, her ribs don't show and she does have a little tummy. In the last 2-3 weeks she has only gained 2 ozs. where before she was putting on 2-3 ozs. a week! Maybe her height growth will slow and now she will put on some baby fat!!! |

if she were to lose weight though that would be the time to go to the vet.. |
Thank you! She is healthy, active and has 2 normal poos daily! :) |
1 Attachment(s) A photo of Teeka all natural! :). |
Go to a feed store. Their good at telling you if their proportionate and its free. They will also tell u amt to feed according to where u live. Bag directions are nationwide. U may be over or under feeding. We were under feeding. But I went by bag. |
Your vet is the best person to tell you if your dog is too thin. Generally speaking, you want to be able to easily feel the dogs rib cage and have a layer of fat over it. You should not be able to see the ribs, however. It's hard to tell from the picture, but she looks pretty good to me. I have never had fat dogs, in fact, mine are a little on the thinner side, but that's healthier than a fat dog. Remember she's a pup, she can burn off more calories than an adult dog so if you feel she needs more food and she isn't getting fat I think you have some wiggle room. |

Abby was a little bit of a puppy but started to get downright scrawny looking as she grew. The vet said she wouldn't start putting on muscle until she got a bit older-then that skin and bones look would go away. She is 16 months and has certainly filled out and is very strong and lean (long bodied) compared to short, thick bodied Ziva. She is now eating about 1/2 of what she ate as a puppy! |
That is what I am hoping is she will fill out as she gets older. She just seems to be all legs right now! |
Aw...she's a doll. She will fill in as she grows and develops more muscle. shes just a baby....oh, I want to kissie her sweet face:D. I so miss the puppy stage:( |
Teeka look's fine by her photo. But if you are concerned I would take her to her vet. She is a precious looking little girl and has a beautiful name also. Happy Holiday's from Anne/Luci:p |
Thank you for the compliments. I do love her to pieces! |
She is adorable. I think everyone hit the advice |
