Could it be a cold? Hi everyone Well it's that time of year and of course, I have my usual Bronchitis back again. I know that our pets cannot catch what we have, however it seems that Wallee also has caught a cold. He has been sneezing and coughing a little bit the past week. It is possible he has a cold right? I am feeling guilty at the moment as he sleeps in his crate in my room and since I am in that "time of my life" my room is quite cool at night. I did put two blankets over the top of his crate to try to keep him warm but is it also possible that he could have gotten a chill? Please advise what you would do for your puppies cold if you thought they had one. He seems fine, playing, eating and no change in his bathroom habits, just the sneezing and occasionally coughing. He is a good size now (over 9 lbs) and 8 months old. We do not take him to dog parks or really around any other dogs so I am pretty sure that he didn't pick anything up from any other dogs. |
'Colds' in puppies and dogs can develope into pneumonia. I would take him to the vet to be checked out. |
:) Awkward isn't it, being in 'that time of your life' :) I keep our bedroom fairly chilly too, and I'm always throwing my half of the duvet onto Andy - for which he's grateful! ;) All the rest of the time, he's huddling right under, with a throw over him too.... Harry's in a crate in our room, too - but he's a strange (big!) boy, and tends to lay on the 'chillier' side of his crate, ignoring his lovely fluffy bed and blankets - so we, too, cover his crate with a blanket and a thick fleece throw. I wonder, as he's smaller and possibly being affected by the cold, whether it might be worth putting his crate outside your bedroom door - leaving the door open a little so he can still see you? It might be more 'sheltered' and warmer for him? If you're worried about his sneezes and coughs, I too would take him to your vet. In the meantime, it might be worth melting a little honey in warm water for him to drink...that always seem to soothe any ailments Harry might have :) I hope he feels better very soon! I would take Wallee to the vet straight away. It cold get worse |
Wallee seems much better today..not sure why he was sneezing..but he doesn't seem to be today...thanks everyone for your concern. |
They do get cold....I put Pao in pajama because he got a cold once and it was close to $200 at the vet so it is cheaper to buy him pajamas. Never feed honey to a puppy as it may contain botulism spores that can be tolerated by a mature dog’s immune system but not by puppies with under developed immune systems. |
