For Those With Allergies. Laddy has been going through quite a battle this year and as a result has totally ruined his coat with all the chewing and scratching but I found an amazing product that worked like a miracle for him. It is a conditioner called "Itch Relief Conditioner" by GNC Pets. I got it at my local Petsmart. It contains hydrocortisone and he has absolutely not scratched or chewed on himself since the first use. |
OMG Charlene. Your ears must be ringing...you have to be a life saver!! Zeus has been absolutely miserable this summer. For about 2 weeks he was fine and his coat was looking better but now it's back up again. He wakes us up at night with his gnawing and biting and more than once I've wanted to break down and cry for him. Just looking at him I can tell he's in misery. Having no allergies myself, I can't comprehend the agony... The vets can't really help. Just lots of vacuuming and 2-4 baths / week. :( He had one this morning and you can't tell. Guess where I'll be going tomorrow. We have tried almost every shampoo and conditioner and health treatment under the sun! Even medication doesn't help, except for the shots... |
We were the same way. Things would help a bit then stop. This has been amazing. We started it about a month ago and I swear he has completely quit the scratching and chewing. You have to leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing but we have only had to give him 1 bath a week. |
That is wonderful to hear. Thanks for the review |

thanks for the info, I use salmon oil for chester that helps along with no dryer sheets, no air freshners and no scent in the laundry, what we do our little four legged children, he is worth it though |

Thanks for the info.., I'm going to try it. |
I just wanted to give a quick update on this conditioner. Zeus has been bathed for 24 hours and he's still scratching but hardly at all! It's only once every 15 minutes as compared to constant 24/7. But, best of all, no gnawing!! I am so completely in love with this. Chad says that he hasn't been scratching that much and I can tell he hasn't gnawed since I've been at work this morning (12 hours ago) because his hair is not wavy like it gets when he gnaws. Happy, happy! Joy, joy! |
I think I'm going to have to try this for my sheltie-mix. He's never had problems with itching and he's over 3 years old. But for the past week and a half, he's itching and licking constantly and (excuse me ahead of time) basically gnawing at his anus. Does that sound like allergies to any of you? |

Omg gotta try this! |
Stewie's been put on a 2 month Hills Z/D diet because of his itching, and I don't think he's liking it very much, but at the same time, I'd much rather do what's best for his health. However, he still scratches and rubs himself against everything from time to time, so I'm sure he still itches, I'm gonna have to try this GNC conditioner. |
For everyone who has used this product...are you still satisfied? Jada has allergies and has had no major flares in a long time, but she still licks her paws a lot. I hate to give her hydroxyzine too much, but it is all that really helps when she is itchy. Thinking of trying this. |
i am curious about this also. my yorkie doesnt have allergy problems, but 2 of my chihuahuas do. maybe this is worth a try .... |
My boys both lick their feet a lot, especially lately. Neo has allergies which he gets weekly shots for, as well as half a Temeril-P two to three times a week. I just purchased online this solution for their feet called "Stop Paw Licking" by Omega Paws. It has to be diluted (half a cup solution to one and a half cups of warm water) and the paws should be soaked for 10 to 15 seconds each time. This is done daily for five days, then at least once weekly. Supposedly, the results should be seen in just a couple days. I haven't started using it yet, will start after their groom tomorrow. Hopefully this will work, as both boys have Frito feet, and I get woke up at night to the sound of licking! |
My Mini suffers from profound allergies, presently she is on Zenequin and Steroids from an allergic reaction of the likes she hasn't had in some time. Her skin is a mess right now so I am going to try this, I haven't spent thousands on various products and consider myself an authority on this topic (regardless of what you think, let me have my moment!) and will post my experience with this on Sunday. |
I couldn't find GNC itch relief conditioner, just the shampoo, would that work just as well by itself? |
