Bully Sticks for a Puppy I know you have to be very careful what a puppy plays with, chews on, and eats but a friend gave Louie a bully stick the other day and he want to chew on it non-stop! He's 12 weeks old so I want to make sure it' okay for him to have it. i know they are digestable but you just never know with a puppy. Right now we only give it to him for about and hour or so a day. It calms him down when he goes on a rampage and letting him chew on it is the only way we can eat dinner in peace! So what do you think? Is it okay for him to chew on his bully stick? |

Toki chewed on a bully stick as a puppy (she still loves them although we've had to cut back)! They were a lifesaver! It was nice finding something to keep her occupied long enough for me to fold a couple baskets of laundry in peace or get in some study time in without her hopping across my laptop! Just be sure to take the bully stick away once it gets to be a couple inches long so your pup doesn't try to swallow it. |
i give them to my lil dolly keylo. i cut off the ends when she gets them to moist and keep them up on the counter when not watching her but otherwise to my knowledge they are not giving her any issues. |
I give my pups bully sticks...they love them and it certainly helps those sore gums and newly errupting teeth.....and , while I dont ever leave them unattended with anything to chew or gnaw on, these are so hard, they really cant chew them up and swallow them. As far as my own dogs, they all get them too....and I also take them away when they get about 3-4 inches long, so they cant manage to get one wedged sideways in their mouth/throat!!! I also love those Red Barn white stuffed femoral bones....they are stuffed with p'nut butterm cheese, chicken, beef, or liver....and they are soooooooo hard, those are the ONLY bones I have let my dogs have in their crates to chew on, unattended, unsupervised. They have those, and they are about 3 years old and they have not even tattered an edge! They are hard as concrete! The stuffing is long gone, but that bone goes on forever! |

I think Bully Sticks saved my Gracie from hurting herself from chewing foreign objects when she was a puppy. She would search every where for something to chew. I buy her the longer 12" sticks so they last longer and I don't have to throw them away so soon. Usually when they are about 4" long I throw them away. They are good for a teething baby but they also help keep adult teeth clean. Do be careful about where you buy them though. Some of the cheaper brands can be too soft and your dog will be able to chew it up too fast. If they can chew it up quickly or bite a piece off then it is too soft and could cause digestive problems. |
