So a flea just walked across my keyboard... ...what's the next step? I have been hesitant to give my little guy frontline b/c of some of the stories I've read here about scary reactions to topicals. Do I need to get one now that I've seen a flea? So far, I have tossed our snuggling couch blankets in the washer in hot water. I also brushed him and didn't see any jump or fall out. I guess he probably should sleep in DDs bed tonight. They are both going to be crabby with me in the morning. By the way it's a chilly November night in Michigan. I thought we were safe until Spring. |
It is not cold enough to kill them. And if they were already in the house before it gets cold. If you were over someone's house that has them you an bring them home.. . . Now I am itchy |
They make a flea pill now and also one that is heart worm & flea combo (trifexis)-spelling . Should run about 17.50 as for the house I would call pest control |
This makes me itch! LOL I would call a pest control company because if they are in the house... not good. We use K9 Advantix II and have never had an issue with it hurting the boys. We have to treat year long for dogs/cats in Maryland. |
Yes I was itchy all day thinking about it. I had completely forgotten that the people who puppy sat for us said their dogs had a flea problem this summer. Ugh. What were we thinking?? Well, I gave him Advantix and checked over him very carefully and didn't see any. I didn't see any of the black specks of flea dirt I've seen mentioned here either. So maybe it's not terrible yet or maybe it wasn't really a flea that I killed. Either way, I washed all bedding in hot and vacuumed the heck out of everything. How do you know if it is a huge problem? I mean where do you look? I remember reading something about brushing the dog on a white sheet to see if any jump off. I did that and nothing. Any other tips so that I can obsess about this? I feel so bad but I don't even want him snuggling with me or the kids right now. Poor guy. |
You'll know if you have a huge problem. A family house we rented out was so infested with them when the tenants moved out that when you walked in they started swarming up your legs. It was disgusting!! :sickie: It sounds like your little one just happened to get a few fleas and you nipped it in the bud. A bath with Dawn dish soap and washing his bedding should do the trick. :) If you're extra paranoid you can have someone spray poison or you can buy household flea and tick sprays. |
