Fromm Grain Free (small kibble help) Goobers? Starting feeding the boys Fromm Surf n Turf Grain Free after the Fromm Salmon a la Veg bag. Now Mickey and Max are having bad eye goobers they did not have on the Salmon a la Veg. Why would they have those on grain free and not the grain inclusive one?? Not sure which flavor to get after this bag or before this bag is gone. They had a little bit of eye goobers on Salmon but not like the Surf. Any ideas what to try or another food that does not cause your babies eye goobers? |
Riley has had None on canine caviar... He had them bad on FROMM... |
Maybe I'll order a bag from Chewy. Which flavors have u tried and he likes? Is the protein and fat level ok? |
I wouldn't immediately blame food ... the weather here has caused Jax some extra eye goobers, and he's been on the same formula of Fromm (Game Bird) all month and they JUST started this week in the cold weather. |
That's weird. I noticed Calvin had bad eye boogies when he was eating the Fromm Salmon A la Veg, but after we switched to Canine Caviar Wilderness they are almost gone. I figured it was from the grains, but I'm not sure. |
Or, why not try the Salmon a la Veg again and see if they go away? If they do, I'd assume it IS the Surf and Turf. |
I hope it is not the Fromm. So far they love both the flavors we have tried. The weather has gotten colder but why would that give them eye goobers? It seems tied to when I started the Surf/Turf about 2 weeks ago. When started transition got to 2/3 Surf and 1/3 Salmon a la Veg is when goobers started. |
Just go back to salmon a la veg. If eye goop goes away, you'll know it's the S&T formula. It's been windier, so whenever we go outside, Jackson comes back with a bit more eye boogers than usual. The cold often makes my eyes water a bit too. |
my dogs all eat fromm grain free. since i switched them to fromm from blue buffalo my shih tzu has no more problems with excessive tearing.. maybe there is something in that particular formula that does not agree with them... if they had no problem with the previous formula just switch back to that.... |
Surf n turf has 4 different protein sources(including chicken)- the salmon ala veg only one, salmon. We tried the tunalini and they loved it. My three do great when I stick to a one protein (fish) food-except for the fishy burps:eek: |
Maybe it is the chicken in it... |
Maybe you can return the unused Surf & Turf food and exchange for a different formula. If the store can't help you, contact Fromm. If you give them all the information from the bag and possibly a copy of the receipt they will give you a voucher for a free bag of food. |

I have a trial bag of the Wilderness waiting at a store which I am going to Pick up this weekend. |
Can anyone tell me if the Salmon a la Veg is a very fishy smelling kibble? Like, does it give them fish breath, or is it extremely smelly? Same question for Surf and Turf and Salmon Tulanni. We fed a bag of Surf and Turf a long time ago. Probably when he was around one year old. And I just don't remember! We're almost done with the Chicken a la Veg bag, and my dads dogs need some new food too so I was going to place an order on Chewy. I'm thinking I'll try him next on Salmon a la Veg. |

Surf and Turf has a fishy smell, but it's not intolerable and my dogs don't have a fishy smell either. I think I'm gonna try the Chicken a la veg next, just to mix it up a bit. |
Anyone try the Duck & Sweet Potato yet? I was going to order some more Salmon a la Veg from Chewy's and thought I would add this to my order too. I did notice a slight smell of fish with the Salmon a la Veg but nothing too big that I am not getting it again  I think the Surf n Turf is much stinkier on the boys faces. Even DH noticed it. |
Fromms We just finished a bag of Surf N Turf. Shelby loved it.. We are going to go with Beef Frittata next.. |
Moki loves Surf and Turf and no eye goobers |
my dogs did ok on the Surf &Turf but poos were a little soft ,next was the Game Bird and the Beef Fritata , perfect poos... so i will stick with those two... i think the Surf & Turf has too many proteins for them.... |

We have used the Duck and Sweet Potato before. The dogs did pretty well on it and seemed to like it. It was one of our favorite Fromm grain inclusive formulas. We have since switched to Horizon Legacy grain free food though. |
I thought I'd bump this thread. Seems Jackson's eyes have been running more too now. It's not horrendous, but noticeable for sure. We're on our, I think, 4th bag of Fromm now. We did Beef grain-free, Game Bird grain-free, then Chicken a la Veg and now we're on last leg of Duck & Sweet Potato. Since the end of the chicken a la veg bag and into the duck and potato, eyes have been runnier. I am unsure if it's the food or environment or something else. I do have an unopened bag of pork & applesauce that we were going to try next. Everything else has been great. For some reason, Fromm took longer than most foods for him to adjust to, but now his poop has been great every day, lol, and his skin and coat are looking fantastic. Breath is good, bloodwork recently at the vet came back good. He's got a lot of energy, almost too much! He does always seem hungry lately too (like more than normal)... I'm wondering if the grain inclusives are not fulfilling him as much. I am probably over thinking it. But wondering if I should do a test and feed him a different grain-free food maybe and see if the extra eye goop lessens, and he doesn't always seem so hungry. |
Dunno about the eye goobers but IME Yorkies are always hungry...As long as he's maintaining weight should be okay. But trying different food for they eyes may be worth a try. But I think after 4 bags of food the goobers may not be from the food?? Dunno |

And yes, Jackson is a total food hound, in one way he IS always hungry (LOL) he will never turn down a treat. But he's been extra annoyingly hungry, like whiny and stuff, which is unlike him. He's been getting proper amount of exercise. I don't know maybe it's just the winter blues kicking in and he's bored. lol. |
I would try sticking with the grain free foods and see what happens. He may have a reaction to some of the grains or other ingredients in the grain inclusive formulas. Plus, the grain free foods are generally higher in protein and lower in carbs. He might feel more satisfied on the grain free foods. And for what it's worth, my dogs seem to eat more of the Fromm grain inclusive foods than they do the Horizon Legacy. An 8.8 lb bag of Horizon Legacy lasts us about 9 days, and a 15 lb bag of Fromm grain inclusive lasts us about 12-13 days. I free feed so they are eating as much as they want. |
