NEW SYMPTOMS...should I be worried?? My 8lb Yorkie in the past few months has had bad gas, loud stomach noises, bad breath, more agitated at night. but the past month has maybe been acting depressed? I have not been able to be home as much because of a new job. He licks his mouth like he has "cotton mouth", he takes deep breaths when laying down. i can tell he hurt his back leg...(he will not walk on it as much).. also.. his breath is horrible but wont let me near him to brush. He is now burping? even before he eats. just all day . He is a rescue dog and has come along way, he is about 5-7 the vet said. when i got him his teeth were bad but now they are worse. Ive taken him to the vet about 4 times since he started, and he couldn't really say much? no heart worm is about it.. i just recently took him in and asked if it could be diabetes and the Dr. said more then likely no. I (on my own) thought maybe food allergy? so i got him some grain free food and the past few days he wont eat as much. he also only eats his food with a tiny bit of soft food.. all natural. well I guess i put in here as much as i could? I hope someone can give me an answer! |
could be hes upset ur not home enough. if he hates brushing try tropiclean clean teeth gel you just apply with your finger nightly. it works and helps with bad breath as well. with the food i am not sure. you might just have to try different types until you find one he likes. yorkies can be very picky. if he has a favorite vegetable maybe mix it in. do you give him treats...? if so be sure those are healthy and grain free also. try being sure he has toys to entertain him during the day when your gone. if you think he injured his leg maybe a vet visit is in order to be sure its nothing serious or he doenst need meds for pain or broke something. good luck hope your boy is feeling better. |
Did the vet do a dental? It sounds like his teeth need work, and if he's having problems with his teeth, he's probably not chewing his food. If he's swallowing his food whole, it could cause indigestion even though he would normally tolerate the food. I personally think the vet should do a dental and pull any bad teeth and once his mouth has healed you will know more about how to help him. It also may help to soften his kibble with warm water, if you ever feed him kibble. |
Thanks for the input. Yes, I do give him treats Ive been trying to find the best ones for him. any ideas? the vet did look at his teeth and said yes his teeth are bad but didn't say to get anything done. i do water his food because he does swallow the food whole. I am going to try the hills diet food...Maybe that will work? |
He could be in pain from his teeth. I wonder why the vet didn't recommend having a dental done on him, if his teeth are bad? I think I would get a second opinion. Good luck and I hope he feels better soon. |
I agree I would get a second opinion. The vet does not seem like he wants to solve the problems. If his teeth hurt him he is not going to want to chew anything hard. Good luck. Keep us posted |
ok, so description of his teeth. well lets just say bad... I have been looking for the gel to rub on them but its been out of stock... pain med or anything else seems to upset him... any suggestions of how i can make him feel a little better? for his teeth |
