(food) this, or this, or that?? so as ive mentioned before... im trying ot find a 'good' food available at my local feed store... theres not much to choose from... besides the not so good brands, and everything from Diamond, and formulas that dont provide grain free... im basically down to 3 options.... Nature's Variety Instinct Blue Buffalo Pinnacle instinct and pinnacle dont have 'much' of the actual fruits and veggies listed in their ingredients, theres a lot more in blue, but at the same time...im starting to wonder how 'important' is because these kibbles are so insanely processed in the first place...so so much of the 'nutrients' ud get from actual fruiits and veggies are destroyed, right? ontop of these kibbles, i will probably add some sort of THK or something of the sort..maybe, im still trying to figure out how i feel about the poop factor and there being whole chunks coming out 'un-digested' its not as big of a deal to have to order the 'topper' because it isnt the 'staple' sorry this is so long, thanks again |
Food can be very frustrating... I have been through many foods with Peanut- He is on Canine Caviar right now and has been doing great on it. Can you look online and buy from there?- you might have more choices than going to a store. |
yes there are definitely more options online, its just i want to get something that i can stick to, and that i can run to the store and get if i need some at the last minute... ive been looking online at everything for A VERY LONG TIME!!! its exhausting lol |
Ahh yes I understand. For me it is easy to order food online.. you just have to be on top of things when they are getting low. Nature's Variety Instinct and Blue Buffalo have had recalls, not sure if you are comfortable with feeding them. I never heard of Pinnacle- It looks ok.. I would maybe try the Grain Free |

Out of those three, I'd pick NV. Yes they've had a few recalls but I consider them a pretty trustworthy company overall. I like their Prairie line a bit better than Instinct though. They also have a limited ingredient line that is good. |
I am going through the samething. I had her own this other organic dog food but then I mixed it with a soft meaty dog food so it really didnt matter. I now have her own Science Diet dog food and she really seem to like it but I also mix it with a soft dog food (cant think of the name right now). I was wondering if anyone knew if Science Diet was a good dog food? It is expensive but if she likes it I will continue to buy it for her. |
Riley eats grain free Canine Caviar and is doing Awesome!! His first bag I ordered from what used to be mrchewy.com and is now www.chewy.com It arrived in 2-days. Dog and Cat Food, Treats, and Supplies | Free Shipping at Chewy.com |

I agree with Brit about going for the NV Prairie...I like the Instinct line but it's kinda high in protein/fat/calories (probably wouldn't feed it to a low-activity dog like my Toki even though it's a high quality food...I know she would chunk up without a drastic serving size reduction!). NV Prairie seems more comparable nutritionally to the BB Wilderness (except for the inclusion of grains) and like a happy medium. With that being said, BB Wilderness and NV are both great choices and I personally would not have a problem feeding either! We've had great success with BB Wilderness in the past...But if you're set on grain-free and your dogs don't mind getting a smaller amount of food, I'd definitely try the NV Instinct (NV Instinct also has a shorter ingredients list, not much in term of fillers, no peas, no potato blah blah blah if those are things that are at the top of your requirements list). Any of the foods you listed seem to be good options though! And you can even rotate if you can't make up your mind and then see which one they do the best on :) |

I feed mine FROMM Chicken a la Veg kibble with THK as a topper (some days I use actual meat or pureed veg/fruit for mine). I have ordered from Mr. chewy and Petflow and my orders have always come earlier than expected. I just order when I have about a week left of food to be safe :) |
I agree with lovesandp food is very frustrating. I also have been through many different foods for my Lola Belle.. She was on Acana grain free grasslands and now is on Canine Caviar grain free venison.. I agree ordering online is better and you can setup automatic delivery. |
