Tonsillitis Hello! I just wanted to ask.... Has anyone ever had a yorkie that had tonsillitis?? I have only been a yorkie owner (my baby's name is Stella) since March, but when she was about 5 months old she got tonsillitis! I asked the breeder i got her from if she ever had a yorkie with it and she said she hadn't. SO i was just wondering is it rare? |
I've only been a yorkie mommy since about August but I've never heard of any dog with it but that doesn't mean much lol comming from me lol |
I've never heard of dogs getting tonsilitis either...this is a new one, mind you I'm not vet be any means and my oldest baby is 19mths old and the youngest is 18wks old! Hopefully someone with more experience can shed some light on this. |
I am a member of the Papvilion forum and there was a dog who had to have his tonsils actually removed just about a week or two ago. I've read that it is very rare for dogs to have tonsillitis. I've read that some people believe that there could be a link between genetically modified corn (corn is sometimes an ingredient in dog food) and tonsillitis. You could google it and see if you find anything. |

Oh wow, I never would have thought they could get it . See why I love this site? Learn something new everyday! |
Thanks everyone! I thought it was strange. lol. I read that if a dog does get tonsillitis that it is usually a small dog. She is over it now:) The only noticeable symptoms she had was that she made a coughing sound (Almost like choking) and she didn't have as much appetite or energy. I think mainly with the decreased appetite thing it had to do with the fact that her throat was really sore. I am getting another yorkie puppy in about 3 weeks so hopefully we can avoid having it happen again. Though i don't know how likely it is to happen twice. ll.:animal36 |
OH! And another symptom she had was that her breath was particularly stinky. I guess due to the infection |
During an exam when Zoey was in her first year the vet asked me if she barked a lot because he tonsills were inflamed. I was stunned - I didn't know dogs have tonsills. She wasn't given any meds but when she started to bark I would tell her, "Stop barking, you're going to hurt your tonsills." lolol |
