Mass/Tumor Surgery... I just wanted to know if anyone of you guys have had a mass/tumor/ growth surgery done on your pups and where.. Peanut took his neuter really hard... He was out of it for like 3 days, it was really hard on him- Since we are going to have his growth/tumor removed next month I was wondering how your pets handled the surgery... how is the after care.. |
Tibbe and Jilly are very distantly related and both of them seemed rocked by anesthesia even the second day so wonder if it was a familial thing or just my nerves. I just kept giving them fluids per the vet's schedule through day three to help flush the drug out and kept them comfortable with the pain meds, careful not to give too much or little and calling the vet when I was worried. She'd have me check respirations, temp, gums, look for swelling, etc., report to her, she'd reassure me and then I was fine again! Actually, I think both of them did fine after surgery, it was just me obsessing. |
Jada had a mass taken out back in early summer. It was benign but very deep and was located between her shoulder blades. She did really well, but was on pain meds for a few days. My Mom and Dad babysat for me because I was afraid to leave her alone with Bogie and I don't crate them. Hope Peanut does ok and that it turns out to be a hernia or a benign growth. |
Sorry to hear Peanut has to have surgery. Wishing him a speedy recovery. Years ago, our Airedale had a cancerous mass removed from her mouth and she was fine the next day. It really depends on the individual dog. |
1 Attachment(s) I saw on your other thread that they think it's either a hernia or a mass. Well, Sophia has had both! Hers was an inguinal hernia, and not an umbilical one though. Sophia had a mass on her shoulder that she got removed a couple of months ago. She was given about 5 days of pain meds, and it took a little over a week for her to bounce back to her normal self. The incision was much larger than I was anticipating (I attached a photo of her after surgery, you can kind of see it on the right). We also had to worry about the harness not touching the incision site. I doubt with the location of Peanut's mass you will have to worry about that. We did try to keep her from being too active so the stitches wouldn't pop. We didn't leave her alone in the house for over a week, because she kept trying to scratch the incision. Sophia had the hernia repaired when she got spayed. Due to the location, it was in her groin area towards the leg, it was difficult for her to walk after the surgery. Once again, a few days of pain meds and then in about a week she was up and about. |

What is a inguinal hernia? Where was hers located? I remember when Sophia had her surgery!! I remember trying to come up with ideas for her harness..Gessh Sophia has been cut up a lot in her life huh- Poor girl. I just think she is a little doll baby, I love seeing her pics!! She is just too cute!! Not sure if Peanut’s mass will be harder or easier.. at least after he is able to lay down still on his side and try to be comfortable! |

Surgery on the torso is more difficult for a dog than mouth surgery, but I'm sure Peanut will do very well with a couple days rest and some pain meds. I know it is hard to see our little ones when they aren't 100%. |
