Worms in stool Hi, everybody! I read the threads everyday but don't talk much. I have learned so much and really appreciate everybody at Yorkietalk! Here is my worry: Our 8 month old baby had worms in his stool yesterday. DH took a sample to the vet and they are sending it to the lab for testing. I gave him his first Heartworm med in August but sorry to admit I forgot in Sept and Oct. Gave him another dose yesterday. Should I be worried? Has he had worms for awhile and we only now are seeing them? He seems fine and is eating and eliminating. We love him so much and don't want anything to happen to him. Any feedback is appreciated!:animal36 |
Welcome. It depends on the worms. He might just need a dewormer. You did right by taking it to the vet. |
You won’t find heartworms in the stool, heartworms are a deadly painful worm that goes to the heart. You must not stop and start the medication without a blood test, this could kill you dog. Doctors won’t even renew a prescription without doing a blood test because it’s so dangerous to give them the pill if they have heartworms. There are some heartworm medications that kill all worms, and even those that you find in the stool, but not all of them do, so you might want to look at a type that kills all worms. We give on the first of each month, and have an email service send us a reminder. |
Sometimes worms can b from eating a flea. I had a dashound that had worms and the vet said most likely it was from a flea. They gave me a pill to give him and he pooped them all out. |
Glad you took him to the vet |
