'wet' food and long hair??? (THK) goodness what do u do??? i am not too happy with the food my babies are currently getting, before i did try the sojos dehydrated food, and i did want to try the honest kitchen... i was a little bit irritated that like the carrots or sweet potatos, whatever it was could 'come out' not digested at all, it looked the same as when i 'prepped' the food..but i was watching youtube videos on THK and that food looks more 'grinded' so i might not have an issue with that... anyways i am so displeased with the 'dry dog food' every kind out there has something bad/wrong with it :mad: anyways, i am blabbing... what do u do about the long facial hair and all the wet food? wipe their face when they are done eating??:confused: that seams a little silly but i dont know! :p |
Some formulas of THK has chunks of fruits & veggies...& yes, it comes out the same as it went in loll. Not sure why they don't grind it up like the rest of their food.:confused: I just take out bigger chunks (like banana in Embark) & cut them up smaller. Thrive doesn't have any chunks. As for the consistency of the food itself, you can add less water to make it more pasty/clumpy. Grain free versions doesn't need too much water to rehydrate. Mine don't get too much food around their mouth, but I do sometimes have a problem w/them getting a piece of hair in their mouth & I have to pull it out. It's all gross lolll so I end up washing their mouth, eye gunk (not everyday) & paws after their evening walks. |
i keep going back and forth, im not sure if i want to jump into it and then find out i cant really afford it i am so tired of switching foods :( how big are ur pups and how much of it do they go through??? if i can manage to go through one 4 lb bag a month or even at least 3 weeks id be ok but if its like 1 bag a week theres no way i can manage :( im still unsure if i want to do the grain free or with grain, when my dogs had grain free before it seemed like they never had 'solid' poop it was always runny-ish and that was no fun...idk so much to ponder and not enough time... wish al lthe food would 'digest' and their fluff wouldnt get crusty from it!!! |
My pups are 5#'s -7#'s. I only feed THK for 1 meal, for breakfast. It has a higher than normal fiber content, so I would have to feed them 3 x's a day & clean up 2x's more poopies to maintain their weight. 1 4# box lasts about a month for us (4 mouths to feed), maybe more bc they only get it for 1 meal. I stocked up when THK had a 20% off sale couple of months ago. They get Canine Caviar kibble for dinner. Mine do better on grain free, firm small poopies. It's the opposite if there's grains, especially oatmeal. They do well w/Thrive which has quinoa. Maybe it was the protein that caused problems for your's? But every dog is different, great if they do well on food w/grains.:) |

im not sure if it was the grain that helped or the less protein, all the food they had were both high in protein and had no grain so idk i think i am going to try the thrive, it has a little less fiber than some of the other ones... i am so tired of trying a bunch of different dog foods!!! i hope this food works for my 2 furr babies, we will see i guess...ill hope 4 the best :)wish this wasnt such an escapade |

We were on THK for awhile. I loved how healthy it was. The girls were never that happy with it though. They ate it like it was just ok. Be prepare for a large increase in the amount they poo. I was surprised so much could come out of such a little dog. |

It is hard to find a good dog food. I agree there is always something not right. Gracie would not go near Honest Kitchen. She was quite a difficult puppy to find a food for. I am now feeding her a commercial frozen raw food that she really likes. It is kind of mushy so I always wipe for face when she is done with a doggy wipe. It keeps food from collecting and making her face look dirty. I suppose a wet towel would work just as well but these are convenient and she doesn't mind. |
