Do all natural flea & tick preventatives really work ? i want to do what is best for my dogs. i would like to use something all natural to lessen the amount of toxins put into their bodies but i also do not want to risk their health by doing something that will not work for what i am trying to prevent such as flea & tick diseases..... |
ive tried several methods and unfortunately had to get revolution as i ended up with fleas. it took two months to get everything under control but i will not do that again because with all my furr kids its too risky to have fleas. |
I have never personally tried anything other than Frontline. But At the Veterinary Clinic i work at , i have talked to quite a few people who have and have had no success. They had to go back to frontline or revolution. |
You might be interested in this thread in the library, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...ural-oils.html . Tea tree oil is a “natural” ingredient used sometimes pure by owners for fleas and sometimes in shampoos, but it has been found to be extremely toxic to dogs. Don’t let the word “natural” fool you, it doesn’t mean its safe. Many people have also recommended Diatomaceous Earth (its natural) sprinkled all over the house and even on the dog. However, new findings show that you should never put it on your dog, and you should vacuum it all up before for your dog comes into contact with those areas. It may kill the pests, but it can cause lung cancer. The problem with natural ingredients is that because they aren’t specifically made for any one thing, they may or may not be effective at what you want to use it for and they may or may not be safe. Companies who make products for special purposes have to test that they are effective and safe. So if you really want to be safe, use something that has been tested. People confuse the word "chemical" with the word "toxin" and this is a huge mistake. |

thank you nancy, that is very helpful.... |
You are welcome, Mimimomo also wrote this thread, with different links on fighting fleas. Hope you can find something that works for you and is safe! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ght-fleas.html |
I used Revolution on my two Yorkies and never saw a flea or tick. Now you can put that on the back of their neck and they can have a bath if they need one. Only problem I had, my JoJo likes to try to grab Spud's neck. He must have gotten a lick of that stuff and he threw up. Otherwise there was no problems with it. We went to a wooded area camping so I was afraid of fleas and ticks. |

I plan on using this in my yard. The directions explicitly say to wear goggles and a mask to protect your eyes and to avoid inhaling into the lungs. I'll see how this works. |
