Jelly like feces, straining for a small amount My little guy Kai has a jelly like poo. I saw him out in the yard and it seemed like he was straining to "do his business". I saw that just a small amount came out. I went to check it out because it didn't seem right to me. His poo was jellyish and I think it had some blood in it. I know two nights ago he somehow got onto our kitchen counter and ate half of a bacon cheese burger that had grilled onions on it, so I have been watching him closly to make sure he is ok. Is there anything I can do to get his stool back to normal? |
I think a trip to the vet is in order. |
How old is Kai? Depending on the age and weight of Kai, it could be from different causes. Only a vet can tell you for sure. My Meika had the same jelly-poo with a little blood, when I first got her. It was coccidia, and often is triggered by stress of moving to a new home. You should collect a sample and take it with the dog to the vet. |
I agree a visit to the vet is in order. Onions are poisonous to dogs and the high fat content of the burger might cause colitis issues as well. Pets and Onions Canine Colitis Hope you dog feels better. Best wishes My vet has given this to help bind the poo. You make white rice using 4 times the amount of water and let it cook until you get a white liquid basically rice water paste. After the rice water cools you give a little paste. This will help bind (firm up the poo) also apple without the skin. The apple pectin binds as well. But you should find out if there is a more serious issue first by going to your vet. |
He is almost two and a half. His attitude hasn't changed. He is still eating and drinking. I just don't want to take him to the vet for them to tell me to feed him lots of fluids :) Is it an emergency vet visit or can I make an appointment? |

I took him to the vet, his urine was a brown/red color! I freaked out, Rushed there asap. They said that it wasn't blood in his urine so that made me feel better. His symptoms are all from eating the onions(along with the rest of my burger!) They gave me metronidazole 250mg. It's an antibiotic. I have to take him back tomorrow. They need to check his blood again. He has leisions (sp) on his red blood cells :( Ugh. I'm so upset. I hope he doesn't get worse and need a transfusion! |

I am sorry that Kai is so sick. I finally ended up putting up a gate to block Buster's access to the kitchen when I am cooking or he is unsupervised. I jokingly say his middle name is "leave it" as he is constantly on the hunt for something to snack on that might have dropped when I am preparing food. I would recommend getting a probiotic to give Kai after he comes home. It will help reestablish a healthy digestive tract after the antibiotics and food poisoning. I use Jarrow Formulas : Pet Dophilus and if you search thru YT you will find other suggestions. I make Buster a cocktail of the pet Dophilus, fish oil, and water. His coat is shiny and his poop is firm. :) Sending prayers for Kai's continued improvement and hugs to Mendomanda. I never realized how many everyday items were so dangerous until Buster came into my life. I had a terrible episode with Buster and sugarless chewing gum (xylitol) and while at the ER vet's that night saw another dog that was very sick from chocolate. Best wishes to you and Kai. |
