I agree... I've been feeding my two grain free dry kibble for their entire lives and I thought I was doing what was best. We evidently need to start integrating some wet at least... I don't know how I feel about raw. I know I couldn't handle watching them eat raw meat.

Her practice isn't too far from me but I've never been there. I do know she has many, many videos online...I love to watch them.

I believe as long as your little ones are drinking enough water, they should be okay. For dogs who do not like to drink, they are the ones that really need the moist food. As the doctor said in the video, cats are at greatest risk because they aren't known for being big drinkers.

When my boys have moist food, their water intake reduces in direct proportion. That is why I am confident that they are never dehydrated.

Similar for humans -- we obtain a lot of our fluids from food, and often our "hunger" pangs are more a signal that we are dehydrated.

Because she has been sick, I actively encourage Leesi to drink. Aside from water bowls in her playpen, by her crate and now our hallway, I keep a bowl on the coffee table, too, and offer her a drink every time I sit down with her. She never seemed to drink enough to me, so I make a point of "reminding" her. Sometimes just a lick off my fingers is enough to get her to go ahead and drink.

I'm sure she's thinking "Fine, I'll drink if it will get you off my back - Sheesh!"

After all that I've read, I plan to continue that practice. Yes, she's spoiled but I can live with it. ;)

Haha! I praise my boys every time they go to their water bowl, the same way I praise them every time they potty. My father jokingly complained, "I have to praise them when water goes in and when water comes out?!" Yes.

This super interesting. I think I'm going to start incorporating some wet foods in my puppy's diet.

Good information. If Tibbe has just kibble, he loads up on water all on his own. If he has moist, his water bowl doesn't move down that much.

I personally wouldn’t worry about this. Do your dogs have plenty of fresh water available? I studied nutrition and there are so many areas that are unknown, and the experts continue to argue. I’m with the group that says every organism knows how much water to drink, unless they are sick or they are taking substances that dehydrate them, and then extra water is called for. Humans are much more likely to be dehydrated than dogs because we drink things with caffeine in them and alcohol which also dehydrates. I agree, fresh, clean water. I read somewhere, that if you won't drink the water out of the dogs bowl, why should they.

I bought a Catit Fountain from Amazon...it has a dome that the water flows out of and down in to a bowl and recirculates...Emy likes to lick the water
off the dome as its coming out..and she drinks from the bowl alot more
than she used to when I just had a bowl of water out...the fountain has
filters that you have to replace every couple weeks, and you have to clean the fountain, but its really easy to do..I love it..you can also find them on Ebay if you search for Catit Fountain....I purchased the deluxe model that
has a feedbowl attached to the end of it...and it also has a mat that is made
for it, its cool...
