Well Puppy Bloodwork Was routine bloodwork a part of your well puppy's first check up? |
No, only if something is suspect or the pup isn't feeling well or eating right. |
No, we didnt' get any taken at our first appointment. We got it shortly after when Sophia was having stomach issues, then at her spay, then at her 1st year checkup, then before her mass removal surgery! |
No it wasn't part of Georgies first checkup, but I think it sounds like a good idea! |
Thank you all for taking the time to answer. I've never had a puppy, and all my fosters always got routine blood work done during their initial exam. Now that I think about it, I guess it was in anticipation of their spay, which I always scheduled right after their vet check. My new vet didn't do any blood work for baby Allie, and I was worried that he (the vet) was being negligent. Morgan, I agree, I think it would be a good idea, and then we could establish a baseline. Though small, baby Allie is doing great, and seems to be very healthy. Guess I'm just being a worry wart mommy. ;) |

Having a puppy from a reputable breeder, where you know the puppy and the parents have had the best care, and they've been vet checked through their infancy, not so important. Many do recommend getting Yorkie pups Bile Acid Tested, but if no symptoms are presenting, then I see no reason to rush to have this done, although I would have it done later, within her first year, and again during her second, and third year. Also one would want testing done to be in line with any buyer/seller contracts/agreements, so that would influence the what and when... |
