One more question Benny seems to eat, but I feel like he doesn't love his food. It's called Taste of The Wild which was recommended by the breeder. I remember our last dog would attack his food when we put it down, (although he was a Brittany and not a Yorkie). Is this unusal? Do you think I should try something different? |
Peanut doesn't really "attack" his food either, he kinda eats like a cat. Sometimes he will take a kibble in his mouth and walk away and jump in his toy box and crunch his food in there.. I have no idea why, I just let him do what he wants as long as he is eating I don't care how! I think some Yorkies are just finicky eaters- Does he eat his serving in his food daily? If he is I wouldn't change it just yet, If he is doing well on it I would just leave it as it is.. if he isn't eating enough than I would recommend finding something he likes. |
I think it might be a "Yorkie thing" A lot of these kiddos are picky eaters. My Luna is a picker too, to the point where I had to start giving her some canned food too, to make sure she was getting enough to eat. As long as your baby is pooping, then enough is being eaten;) |
My Rosie is a very picky eater. I would put food down and she would eat very little or even walk away from it. If it were me, then yes I would try something new. I homecook for her now. Which she loves. But as a snack, we do use some dry food. I am using Blue Buffalo Basics with her now. You might get some samples and see if there is something your baby likes better. There is a lot of different opinions on dog foods. However, I think you will find what works best for your baby. I do want to add that I was using TOTW until the recent recall they had. That is when I changed to the Blue Buffalo. Again, this is just what I did and only my opinion. |
I leave their food out 24/7...BOTH kinds. I actually started out with Beneful, and decided to offer Welness. I think it's a better food. Anyway... I didn't do it like most do, where you start with a little of the new, and reduce the amount available of the old. I just set a bowl of Welness down beside the Beneful, let them eat what they wanted, and still am. "They" decided that they would eat the Beneful in the mornings, and the Welness in the evening. I didn't decide when they would eat, they did, and they are as regular as a clock on their own. So now, I feed two kinds, and just fill the bowls up when they get low. It's SO nice to not have to worry about it, and let them do what they want. |

This is how Peanut is- I tried to "schedule feed" him and it soooo did not work out for us, he didn't eat in the morning and then he would get stick and throw up bile! So ya I stopped doing that, it only to about a day to figure out it wasn't going to work for us.. Peanut doesn't eat in the morning, he will munch a little in the afternoon, then when I get home between 5-7 is when he will clean his bowl out. Just leaving the food down works so much better for us! |
My two get fed twice a day, once in the morning and then in the evening. They both eat their food in one sitting, but don't 'attack' it. I don't think I would feel comfortable leaving food down 24/7 because my two would eat too much. However, if it works for you... then do it :) |
