need some teeth help! Lillie is going in for her dental tomorrow...to say the least I am a NERVOUS WRECK!! I know she will do fine (having pre op blood work done in the morning) but, I am always a wreck when they have to be put under...Her teeth are really bad...I'm afraid they are going to have to pull a few of them..2 have already fallen out. She will NOT let me brush her teeth. I have had bad experiences with chews (chocking). What do you all do for their teeth? Does anyone know of anything I could rub on their teeth that would help with tarter? I have 3 furbutts...only one will let me put my finger in her mouth...It's going to cost me a small fortune to get Lillies teeth done...I know small dogs have teeth issues but, would like to be able to prevent them from having to get their teeth done...if possible. thank you |
There are gels you can squirt into their mouths and water additives. I believe genetics has a much bigger part in oral health than diet or brushing them does myself. |

I can't offer any help. Mine lets me brush with no problem but I wanted to let you know I will be praying your babies dental and hope it goes great and that they don't have to pull a lot of teeth. |

Sending good thoughts for Lillie's dental tomorrow:) I've been using TropiClean on Luna and Izzy, who won't let me brush, either. Their teeth were looking pretty darned bad and now they are much, much better! They were yellow about halfway down each tooth (EW!!) and now there's just a little along the gumline that I KNOW I could get off if they'd let me brush. You use this stuff once a day until you get the results you want, and then twice a week for maintenance. Luna fights me but Izzy will lick it off my finger:laugh: Since she's having a cleaning, you probably could just begin with the maintenance schedule of twice a week and do it more often if you see tartar coming back. |

I'll pray for Lilly this morning! Sorry, I'm in 'sticker shock'! $750. for a dental? My jaw is hanging open and I just can't think of what to say about that, other than maybe shop around? |

I use healthy mouth water additive and I brush with coconut oil. |
Dentals here average $300-400 which includes pre op blood work. Have you thought of maintenance by anesthesia free cleaning, since she won't let you clean her teeth? It only costs about $20 per visit. They gently scrape off any tar tar, & also teach you how to properly hold them while you brush (between your legs, they can't wiggle!). I used Houndstooth Dental, anesthesia free Dog Teeth Cleaning, Dog & Cat Teeth Cleaning they work out of a holistic vet office here. The vet sees your dog's teeth 1st & ok's it, not all anesthesia free cleaning places do this tho (it depends on where they work out of). But once she has her dentals done (since anesthesia cleaning goes deep into the gums to clean), this might be a good maintenance option to keep her teeth clean. Mine got it done earlier this year (except Momo, he's got to go under by the end of the year=/) & I've been brushing their teeth every night while I watch my programs. It's become a routine where they seem to enjoy it too. GL to you:) |
