This sounds like allergies. Does he also chew/lick his paws? That's another cardinal sign. Do you have Vet Dermatologists in the UK? Bc that'd be the very best thing you could do for him - the Vet Derms really deal expertly with allergies. Here in the US, the things we use for allergies are over-the-counter Anti-histamines, fish oil (put on their food), and then the prescription items are -- Atopica, Temaril-P, steroids. What food is he eating? Did you change the food before the symptoms started? How long has he been itchy like this...and does it come and go with the seasons? He's on dry, wheat free and hypoallergenic food called Wainrights in the UK, but he used to be on the wet food. Maybe switching from wet to dry (to harden his stools and stop his itchy bum lol) has caused it. I will try him with cod liver oil, someone else has suggested this to me. What do you find is the best oil? I don't want to give him a sore tummy as well as itching. To be honest, he's not even 1 yet so I wouldn't know if these were seasonal allergies as they are all his first season haha Bless my little boy, I might be back with more questions later! |
I was giving Dolly fish oil when I took her up to the University of Illinois they had me stop the fish oil as it has protein in it and said It might be adding to the problem they had me put her on coconut oil,she is better also I changed her food from BB to Hills |
I had a brown toy poodle that had skin problems. Chips would itch and bit skin and smell really bad. I took her to a vet- dermatologist who recommended changing her dog food to venison and rice. I did that and she cleared up. Check the food. Many dogs are allergic to certain foods. Try the venison, it worked for Chips. Sandy |
