Carrots Are carrots OK to give as a treat? |
I'm a little afraid of giving raw carrots, they don't dissolve like other foods and if caught in the throat they can be very dangerous. Some people slightly cook the carrots and/or give very small pieces so this won't be a problem. |
I would be a little hesitant on feeding what we call "baby carrots" because it is a fact that they are soaked in chlorine during their processing. You can check this out on the internet, just type in "baby carrots". |

Callie will not eat raw carrots but she loves cooked carrots! |
I don't really think feeding lots of carrots is that great. Sugar/calories. I mean, obviously eating carrots is better than giving them cheetos or something. But if I were going to feed a veggie, I'd do green beans. |

Carrots have the highest sugar in vegetables. But I wouldn't worry to much. Ive never seen anyone get fat off carrots. But they should be blanched so they don't choke. Probably better than dog treats. I go with the theory if it grows and isn't poisonous it can't be to bad compared to processed??? JMO |

But corn is a grain :D. But unless your diabetic sugars from fruit and veggies are processed through you body better vs processed sugars so I wouldn't worry to much. Especially if your dog get exercise. Unless they are on a restricted diet or something. Usually when your on a diet they let you eat all the veggies you want. They burn so fast they don't count them. Dog maybe different but we are just talking snacks?? Sure someone will have different info. But physical fitness is a hobby and I try to keep up with good foods. Except for today's BBQ :) |

Harry loves his veggies - carrots being one of many. I tend to give him a selection though, not JUST carrots. And I too prefer to give them lightly cooked - if you think of eating them raw yourself - they're quite difficult to swallow? :) Sally + Harry x |
I give my yorkie the tip of a carrot every other day or so, and she looovvveeess them! I have a rabbit that gets a whole carrot, and my puppy gets jealous so I do give them. She gnaws on them and shreds it to pieces while eating it, so I'm pretty sure it helps clean her teeth too ;) |
