Yet again, another poop question loll! Ok, so dogs take 16 hrs to completely digest & pass their meal (please correct me if I'm wrong), my vet told me this & I also read it on the internet... So, what they poop in the morning, is that their dinner from the evening before? This is where it gets confusing for me: Since I'm feeding kibble in the morning (2 different kibbles of both Mimi & Momo/ Princess & Turbo~ wish I can simplify things here, but there's reasons they're on different kibbles, this is a whole different topic!) & Honest Kitchen for dinner, I'm trying to figure out what is always making Momo's & Princess' evening #2 soft @ the end. Since this is evening time #2 which they usu go during their walks around 7:30pm, is it their breakfast? Even tho it's only been 11-12 hrs since they had breakfast... So I'm taking Ann's (Wylie's mom) advise & have started feeding them THK for both meals just this morning. We'll see how it goes. |
i think the reason for the soft poo is too many different foods. i think the suggestion to feed only the honest kitchen is a very good idea. i hope it works... |
ohh I never thought of it that way... I wanted to feed kibble for one meal & THK for the other, Mimi & Turbo are doing well. Sometimes I even give them some premade raw as a treat. No soft poopies from them. Momo & Princess are the sensitive ones so I give them hard boiled eggs instead as a treat. I'm just trying to figure out if something in the kibble is not agreeing w/them. Was thinking of switching kibble again, but if I'm giving them too many different things & that's what the problem is...then how does the rotation diet fit? |

When I was feeding regular kibble, I bought 3 different kinds and mixed them together and fed it that way. If there was a recall on one or the store was out of one kind, I would just buy a different kind and mix it in with the other two. That way, I figured I could avoid tummy upsets bc 2/3 of the food would always be the same... or I could safely swap in something new if I wanted to try a new product. Anyway... that's my version of a rotation diet.... |

if it were me i would try one thing at a time and see how each food affects them.. i guess what i meant to say was if you are trying to eliminate which foods bother them you should do one at a time. Other than that there is nothing wrong with feeding a variety of foods if your dog does well on it |

update on the monkies... It's the same.=/ Princess & Momo's #2 in the evenings are still soft @ the end even when they're on THK for both meals. I think that's normal for them...for as long as I can remember, Momo's was always soft @ the end. It might have to do something w/their digestive system going awry. Princess had colitis couple of months ago & can't have any high fat foods. So I have her in a simple single protein source (or so I thought) kibble for breakfast. Momo had an operation when he was 7 months old to have a queen palm seed taken out bc it was stuck @ the entrance of his small intestine. Pica anyone?:p He had major multiple ulcers & his insides were just a mess. I also have to be very careful about what he eats & watch him all the time...he's a widdle piggie! |

Mimi, Momo & Princess tried all the different protein sources from THK w/out me mixing the old w/the new & had no bad reactions either. Of course, when they were trying a whole new food like premade raw, I mixed gradually... |
Monkeys! Just thought I'd pop in & give a poopie update... I give them THK for breakfast & kibble for dinner now & it's the same result! I am stumped. I've found out that Turbo is also beef intolerant! He threw up after eating Stella & Chewy's Freeze-dried Beef patty (got a sample). I thought it was the pumpkin seeds (4got that was in there!), but he also threw up after eating NV raw Beef medallions. He does fine w/chicken, so sticking w/that. Mimi & Turbo seem to do very well on premade raw, so I am thinking of giving them only that for dinner, no more kibble for them. Thank You for reading my ramblings & helping me trying to figure out their poopie business! lolll |
Hmmmm....odd. So in sum, no matter how you're scheduling the foods, the poos are soft at the end, for the eve poo - but just for Momo and Princess, is that right? Are Momo and Princess from the same breeder? I can't recall if you're giving probiotics or not...? If not, I'd recommend BeneBac; I usually recommend Natures Farmacy, but given how odd this is, I'd skip it right now bc it has the enzymes...which are usually great, but in this case I'd stick w/ a simpler formula like BeneBac Powder. Were their poos ever firm, in their lives? If they were, I wonder when that changed or what caused it... |

About the probios in their kibble...I wouldn't count on that overly much. Meaning, I wouldn't trust they're actually getting them as described bc of the exposure to air etcetera. I dunno, I'm always suspicious of how much, if any, probio gets thru went added to kibble. Probios die so easily. |

I ordered some benebac, will try it out & see how it goes. Thank You Ann! |
My Rico had the same with his poo. Vet said he needed more fiber in his diet. So far this has worked :) |
