Reduced Calorie And Grain Free? I need a reduced calorie, grain free, high quality kibble, preferably without beet pulp. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there such a thing? Thank you everyone in advance. |
My parents' beagle is currently eating Blue Buffalo Basics Turkey and potato. It's a limited ingredient formula that is grain-free and 366 calories per cup and fits your description. I haven't contacted BB but I would think that this formula is high in carbs from the potatoes so even though it's grain-free, it's not low-carb. I'm assuming you need something for your dog's weightloss? I'd probably choose a regular grain-free food and feed smaller amounts and increase the exercise. |

Oops! It's 350 calories per cup! I was looking at the grain-inclusive turkey and potato! The GF turkey and potato has 350 calories though. |
Thank you both so much. Yes, I needed something for weight control, and she is very allergic to grain. Beet pulp-free kibble helps keep down the tear staining. I really appreciate your suggestions. I've been cutting back Lola's kibble and adding more green beans, but you are right, we need to increase the exercise too. Because she was starved in the puppy mill, she is now food obsessed, but I need to get her back down to a more healthy weight. Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. |

Are you sure you need a lo fat food or do you just need to monitor how much and when she eats throughout the day? I use Nature's Variety Instinct Boost and mine are doing very well on it...no one is over weight. I feed NV frozen raw and the Boost ...alternating every few days...they love the raw food but they also love a crunch now and then. It's grain free and I didn't see beet pulp on the ingredient panel but it is high in protein and fat but mine are not gaining weight. A high quality food that keeps her full longer might help with the food obsession. |

Maybe look into Pulsar by Horizon? It is grain free and not too high in fat or calories. It has a very low glycemic index also. It's also a fairly simple formula food. The people at The Paw Depot where I buy my food recommend it pretty highly. |
Look at the nutrition facts on Natural Balance kibble, I use Sweet Potato and venison for my dogs. I have one pup with allergy issues and one with HGE issues and this food works for all 4. It is part of their limited ingredient diet and so far I've happy with it 2+ years. |
Wow, thank you everyone for taking the time to post. I think I have a lot of homework to do. It's so nice to have options. |
