Butternut Squash
 
I'm giving a :thumbup: for feeding my kids Butternut squash.
They really love it.
I bought frozen cubed squash and boiled it.

Just thought I'd share!

What do you mean you buy it frozen? They have it already cut and frozen? :D

Squash is a fruit. I use in place of sweet potato. Yes it's cut and frozen as tiny cubes.

Good. I'll tell my wife Moki can eat all the butter squash from the garden.
I get Squashed out sometimes.

Awesome! Is butternut squash lower in sugar than sweet potato? I'd like to give sweet potato more often but worry about the sugar content (perhaps unnecessarily?). I'll have to try some butternut squash with Toki!

Roughly it is 1/2 the carbohydrates of sweet potato and about 1/3 the sugar. It has a lower glycemic load than sweet potatoes by about half. Good source of vitamin A also. Has a decent amount of omega 3 fatty acids too. It's a great food - more than sweet potato I think without the sugar spike.

That is interesting. My girls love veggies, so bet they would like a little cube for a treat. Do you thaw it out or give it to your pups frozen? (I have never bought frozen squash before, by-the-way, just fresh, so not sure how to do it. :confused:)

I buy it frozen and I boil about some water and then I boil it for about 5-6 mins. I let it cool and feed like that. I'm sure it would be fine raw and thawed but I haven't tried this.

I need to hit my brother up for some squash...he has a huge garden:p I bet my guys will love it, they love almost all veggies and fruits except spinach.

Here's what it looks like once mixed with the rest of my food. It's the little orange cubes. Looks YUM if I must say so myself.

Sugar and Curri both love butternut squash! I sub for sweet potato a lot but I usually buy fresh and roast it. Sugar won't touch rice so we are grain free.

They also love zucchini, crookneck, acorn and spaghetti squash added in as additional treats sometimes. Orange goes over much better in my house. Always has ~ even with my skin kids :wink:

We are grain free too. One of the yorks doesn't like rice so much. I can't stand the pouting and the :mad: face he gives. My little Teddy...

That looks just like a 'Harry dinner' :D Yum yum!!! He loves butternut squash too....I often use it instead of sweet potato. A bit for him, a bit for me....;) :eek: :D Sally x

I couldn't find butter nut frozen but I did get it fresh. Lisa had to educate me on it. Lol. I'm a crooked neck squash girl! :p

Can you bake them and make BN sticks like you can do with Sweet Potatoes? I really want to try giving Peanut healthy treats, green beans, BN, Peas stuff like that.

I saw that huge squash you found :eek: you can freeze it and have squash for the girls for months:D

There were only 2 in the whole store! And the other was BIGGER! :eek: the one I got was almost 4 lb!!! My girls will have a lot of squash to eat! :D

Finally found some frozen butternut squash at Target! (Thank you Lisa! ;)) I am sure it will be easier than the huge one I got at Walmart!! :eek:

Oh, what you found WAS frozen??

The pic I sent you was from the produce department ~ cubed but fresh. I never made it over to the freezer section of ours to look :D
Glad you cleaned them out:thumbup: Now they will have to reorder :sidesplt:

Our Target don't have a fresh produce section. Ha ha! You have to remember where I live! I was thrilled to find frozen!!

Well if your Target doesn't have a produce section, then it's a regular Target and not a Super Target ~ I'm DOUBLY impressed that you found it!!!
