Zukes good or bad
 
I need soft treats for training. Could find any recalls? So nobody has hear of any? Just making sure. Made in USA. should be okay. I need soft snack to break them into tiny pieces just for a taste.:animal36

I have a friend who uses them. Her pups love them. But my Rosie wouldn't touch them. She is very picky. My friend has used them for a long time.

Rosie is very picky. There are so many things other pups love that she turns her nose up to. Lol. Maybe yours will love them!

Yeah mines not picky. Hell do tricks for kibble. But it's hard to break. He will eat anything..toes , fingers ect...:D

Lol...cute. Also about the kibble, I have sample bags of larger kibbles like Orijen and California Natural that I like to use for treats...I just use a cheap pill cutter that I got at the drug store to chop 'em up into 2 or 4 pieces so that a little bit of kibble goes a long way!

Good Idea. He lover Royal Caine but I like to feed Fromms. I have a bag of Zukes I sliced it up. He loves it like candy. Probably the Maple syrup. When it's done I will try this will kibble. I feel if I'm going to fill him up I would rather have the best quality food. I will use cooked meat but was told to save that for when he start learning a lot and get more picky I guess.??? I see no problem with using cooked meat for snacks and treats. It's a high value treat for training purposes. I use small bits of chicken breast. I also use fresh veggies for training treats.

On the Zukes, they have not agreed with my dogs. The only treat I buy is Fruitables Sweet Potato Pecan flavor. They are not soft treats, but they all love these and there are good ingredients. Company founder is well respected veterinary nutritionist Dr Bauer of Texas A&M and treat is made in USA. I like these a lot.

I always use cooked meat&veggies for snacks. I feed my dog a mix of cooked foods and kibble. I still like to use kibble in case I miss some nutrition. I feed my dog like I would eat. I eat very well. My Physical health is how i make my $$. Can't do that from Mc Donalds. Just I don't want to carry meats in the hot weather for hours. I don't like to leave food out. Zukes was Usa made seem popular. Moki loves them but I don't like the Maple syrup in it. But guess the rest doesn't look to bad. I'm not a fan of sugar. I mean the Maple syrup in a whole may not be bad but I really don't know how much is there?? Moderation is the key. Probably no worst than a banana??JMO

Seems you're answering your own question. I would not want the maple syrup and yes I think it is worse than a banana. But, convenience foods sometimes are necessary in life. As for eating well - there is a huge range of opinion on what that means, for us and for dogs.

We love Zuke's mini naturals.

However they are "dog candy" here and given in moderation as being such.

For extensive training sessions like when starting the agility course we made in the yard chopped vegi bits and boiled chicken breast.

Going to the vets and grooming we give Zukes...they are that little tip on top of the food pyramid.

Yes I agree dog candy. But I only give him enough just to taste. Hardly anything. Gotta keep him working. I do prefer good foods for treats. Just with the heat I got something easy. Just want to make sure I'm not feeding poison.:( :). But really if you look at the ingredients it isn't that bad when you compare to alot of others. By the time he is done with the bad it will cool down and I will use something fresh...

We grocery shop ay a whole foods irganics only market (a co-op) Zukes is tge only brand of dog treats they sell thus far. Ironically it is next to the candy isle!

I have been giving my girls Zuke's for years as a reward for pottying. They have never had a problem with it and love it, even though Piccolo has had Pancreatitis and I really watch what she eats. The only downfall of Zukes for Piccolo is that sometimes she does a fake squat/pee to get more. :rolleyes: Such a smart girl. :D
