Chocolate! maisy got into some christmas chocolates (recesses pieces) on my carpet i found 2 spots that could either be a result of her going into heat for the first time OR she could have thrown up..i really don't know..it looks somewhat bloodlike/dark redish.. she drank alot of water & peed normally but hasnt pooped yet.. what should i do? i learned in puppy class to give her stuff to make her throw up if its really bad..but i dont want to do that unless its completly necessary..like if she ate a frog or something like that.. her behavior is normal.. has anyone else experienced what happens after eating chocolate?? |
Call Your Vet Immediately! |
http://www.dogownersdigest.com/news/...oisoning.shtml Good Article re: chocolate/chocolate poisoning...Towards the bottom are the lethal amounts for dogs... Please keep us posted Fran |
I agree with TxShopper....please contact your vet asap. Last Christmas our Magic got into a Christmas socking while we were out and ate some hershey kisses....we never figured out how many...but found at least 6 opened and messed with....Magic had thrown up probably 12-15 times while we were out (about 5 hours)....she was very scared and sick (dehydrated - sp??)....we took her in to the vet and they told us the best and worse case....kept Magic overnight giving her fluids under the skin and medicine to stop the vomiting.....needless to say we worried the night away and first thing in the morning the vet let us know she was fine and appeared to have no long term issues. I am not trying to scare or alarm.....just let your vet know the amount of chocolate and how she has reacted so your vet can make the judgement call. Keep us updated..... |
Aren't reeses pieces actually peanut butter inside and not chocolate? I know milk chocolate is not as bad as dark chocolate and the worst is bakers chocolate. If it was milk chocolate and she didn't eat too much of it she is probably fine. I had a scare a while back when my yorkie stole a see's candy bordeaux egg from my daughters room. I found the empty wrapper and ran down to the vet's office and showed it to them and they said it wasn't enough to be too concerned about. Later I found the actual egg somewhat smashed into my living room carpet. It was mostly intact but had been pretty seriously licked. Why do they always want to eat things that are bad for them? |
my dad looked up on the internet the ammount of toxicness(lol..i dont think thats a word) of the chocolate and she ate only 1/6 of what whould even begin making her sick..so shes fine and now shes pooped normal and ate her food too! so thanks everyone but maisys fine! (porbably since she only ate 3) |
I am so glad that she is doing better....it can be very scary not really knowing!! We learned the lesson the hard way with cholocate....thanks for updating us! |
Each dog will react a different way. Some people may feed their dog a chocolate chip as a treat and their dogs are fine. Others may have a bad reaction. Same as people. |
Logan ate a peanut m & m and was fine, but anytime chocolate is consumed I would notify the vet and watch for any behavior changes. |
Chachi got some chocolate and was fine. I just watched him. |
