Food decision for new puppy Hi all, I am picking up my second Yorkie, a female puppy, in two weeks and am torn about which food to put her on. I have narrowed my choices to Blue Buffalo life protection bits and Wellness small breed for puppies. Any opinions are well appreciated. Thanks! |
I prefer Blue Buffalo over Wellness. Wellness caused Rosie to have goopy eyes. I am not sure about the other BB but I use BB Basics Small Breed Turkey and Potato. So far, I have been pleased with it. |
I recommend Blue Buffalo. All three dogs in my family have done well on it. I started Toki on the Life Protection Chicken and Oatmeal for small breed puppies when I first brought her home. Then we transitioned to the Blue Buffalo Wilderness which I'm a fan of. My sister's senior yorkie also really enjoyed the Wilderness (especially the salmon one). We have had good results with this food and I would not have a problem with going back to it if we could not get Fromm locally. |
out of several brands i have tried i prefer Blue Buffalo Wildnerness for my little ones. |
Abby came home on Wellness and had awfully mushy puppy poop, she got into the other dogs food and within a day her poop was formed and manageable. I would not suggest switching a puppy's food that quickly but it just happened (for the best). What about an all life stages grain free/ probiotic food for both your dogs? Makes our life much easier even tho they have to eat fish based because of ones allergies. |
What is the puppy on now? And why do you want to change? I personally prefer grain free foods and think most dogs do better with them. |
I have fed mine BB and Wellness. Cozy and Lucy porked up on both very easily. Lucy never liked BB's lifebits- She would spit them out and feed them to Roxy. Roxy and Zoey (RIP) stayed lean. All of mine are healthy weights right now. They all eat FROMM's Chicken a la Veg. 1/4 cup per yorkie and 2 cups for Buddy the Golden in the am with 1 tablespoon of Honest kitchen Force/ yorkie and 4 tablespoons for Buddy as a topper daily for breakfast. Dinner is fruit and veggies to fill them up but keep them thin:) |

This is a good question, that I was going to ask also. Austin will be coming home on Friday. The breeder is feeding Chicken Soup for puppy (which I had never heard of) and I will continue initially, but would like to know what brands others recommend. Thank you |

Thanks to all who have answered. I thinki will probably start with the BB small breed puppy chicken and oatmeal. I would have liked to start grain free, but BB doesn't have a small breed puppy kibble in grain free. Does it really matter if it's not small breed puppy food, I'm thinking the kibble may be too large. |
