teeth At what age should Yumi be done losing the teeth she's going to lose? I planned to wait until her 1st heat to get her spayed, and have her left over puppy teeth removed then, but from what I've read it sounds like they can go into heat as early as 6 months. She's a week shy of 7 months now, and I think she has 2 sets of top fangs. 1 set of sharp puppy ones and 1 set of more rounded adult fangs. The adult fangs don't seem to be as long as the puppy fangs yet, could she still lose them? |
I am a fan of spaying before the first heat so I would schedule an appointment now for her spaying and pulling of baby teeth. |
I just asked my vet about this yesterday. He told me that if they don't lose the milk teeth by 7-8 months, they're not going to lose them. Yoshi is finicky & I thought that perhaps the extra teeth were making it uncomfortable for him to chew. I was also concerned about his jaw getting overcrowded. Yoshi is 7 months old. My vet says that waiting 5 months to extract the baby teeth won't hurt his jaw. I know that doesn't exactly answer your question. But if you're planning on getting her spayed earlier than one year old, maybe you could give it a month or so to make sure that all of the sharp baby teeth are going to come out, do in fact come out. I wiggle Yoshi's every night when I brush his teeth just to see if they're loosening up any. And just for the record...Yoshi's extra teeth aren't making it hard for him to chew. He's finicky because I spoiled him. |
Thanks for the replies guys. Her teeth don't seem to bother her at all. They also don't seem to be getting loose. I'm not too worried about the extraction, since she'll have to be spayed anyway, so much as how bad it'll hurt her afterward. Poor baby is gonna wake up hurting all over :/ |
Yoshi's extra teeth don't seem to be bothering him either. Good luck with the upcoming procedures. It must be tough on the little guys, but I'm sure she'll be fine! It seems like a pretty standard thing that all have them have to go through eventually. |
I was going to ask this same question. My puppy is 8 months and has puppy/adult canines on both top bottom and right left sides. Her bottoms are in front of one another but the top ones are pretty close together. I will end up getting them pulled when she gets spayed in a few months. |
