Has anyone ever heard of this food. Brothers Allergy Formula? DH and I were looking for another food for Peanut, I don't think the Acana is working out for him anymore- This food is one of the top rated "allergy foods" out there.

I really like how they explain everything, also I love how they talk about storing the food in a cold warehouse-

They really sound like they know what they are talking about.

My only concerns is that I thought "Turkey" meat was bad for them, I know this is Turkey meal, I am not sure if that is a difference- Maybe it is just the Turkey meat from Thanksgiving dinner that I am thinking about.

Also this food is low in Ash!

hey , it looks pretty good . it sure is expensive though.. 22.99 is not unreasonable for a 5 lb bag but a 15 pound bag is over $60.00, yikes.
it looks good though. if it works it would be worth it and economical to feed 1 yorkie.
i think turkey is good to feed. i believe its chicken and beef and sometimes lamb that can be allergens.

Also, turkey is absolutely fine for them. Not sure where you heard it's not. I think the skin from turkey is bad, but I would think the skin from any meat wouldn't be great for them, not just turkey.

We are on our first bag of Canine Caviar and so far so good. I love the low ash formulas, the company, the simple ingredients, etc. We are currently feeding Open Sky. We actually went in to the store looking for something cheaper than Acana- I was annoyed with their bag decrease and price increase :thumbdown but of course ended up with CC which is even more expensive... I probably can't feed it full time, but am going to be rotating between it and Earthborn (the price difference is crazy!!) Earthborn we got a sample of once which he loved, and the prices are great ($27.99 for a 14lb bag) vs. Canine Caviar which is $40.99 for a 12lb bag. I like Midwestern pet foods, too (Earthborn) and it will be nicer on my wallet. In other words, if he does just as well on Earthborn as he does on CC, I don't see a reason to spend the larger amount of money. ;)

I know!! It is expensive, I was at $19 with Acana and no shipping- My total with this food was 27$ with shipping- At this point I really don't care if I am paying 50$ if this food works and it takes his itches away I will be fine with it!

Ohhh maybe it is the skin I am thinking about LOL..DH and I did a lot of research last night, well he did :D He was the one that found the food.Dh said it is his turn to pick a food LOL. I started reading on their website and the more I read the more I wanted to give them a try, All though Acana doesn’t have Oats/grains, it does have a lot of different ingredients, so maybe Peanut needs to be on a Limited Ingredient diet, Which is sounds like Brothers Allergy formula is that. I also like how they explain how they store the food as well as what goes on inside the body, when it talked about Anal glands I thought of Peanut bc right now he gets his done once a month!!

I hope and pray this food works, I really do! Peanut is at the vet right now bc of his itches, I know it is from the Acana bc he has never been like this before and the new bag of Ranchland I bought him is different the kibble is thinner and I think you said they changed the formula..? Something they did is not agreeing with him, and he doesn’t have fleas and doesn’t get ANY table foods so it has to be the food.

His poor little leg, the (pic attached) His skin is really dark, and he chewed all his hair off! My friends dog had the same thing happen to his tummy he had black spots- Took him in and they said it was an allergy to food!

yes, after all poor little peanut has been through it would be nice if this food would work for him.
at least for a one small yorkie a 5 pound bag would last awhile.

It may work just as any diet could work for individual pups depending on what they are sensitive to. As an allergy food, it does not look good at all. Way too complicated, several protein sources, and it is not hydrolyzed. For truly allergic dogs, either hydrolyzed foods or a diet of one protein and one carb should be used for trial.

I would try an RX allergy food long before I tried this food. Too expensive for me. Kibble alone would cost me $150/month.

What is your vets opinion!

No. I have never heard of it. I personally would go with a limited ingredient diet. How about home cooking? ;)

I just homecooked for him.. Lol it is just until Monday, I will be trying him on the Brothers see what happens!

I would like to homecook, but what do you do when your travel?

When I travel I cook ahead and leave it in portions for sitters. If I take the dogs, I take their food in a cooler.

I wouldn't feed this to an allergy dog who is symptomatic...not for a second. It has way too many different proteins - there are no novel proteins in this food. I would never give flax to an allergy dog.

Omegas are wonderful for allergy dogs, but they should get it via fish if they have allergies.

I'm not sure what your goals are here. Are you trying to do an elimination diet? How did you come to believe his symptms are from the Acana? Food allergies in dogs are very, very rare. However, enviro allergies are extremely common in dogs (pollens, dust, whatevs).

What have you tried to treat these allergies? Which meds etc? Are you seeing a Vet Derm? If not, I'd find one right away.

This kiddo should be on a novel protein and a carb - that's the kind of kibble I'd look for a sympto dog.
