Canine Caviar Reviews Does anybody feed Canine Caviar? What reviews do you have, good or bad...!?? |
I'm interested to hear some reviews too! I had look into canine caviar in the past but some of the formulas have garlic in them. I guess they add it for palatability but I always thought garlic was a no-no. |

I also have read a lot about garlic being a controversial item. I have read where most experts favor the ingredient for its numerous health benefits and that a dog would have to inject a Huge amount of garlic for it to cause any problems, at all... I don't know though.... that is just what I have read... I just bought a bag of the Wild Ocean Grain Free Canine Caviar from mrchewy.com to put into my rotation... It should be here in a couple of days. Didn't like that i had to buy a 12 pound bag. It will take Riley FOREVER to eat all of that... Maybe I can split it with my Sister!!?? |
Is that comparable to the Pacifica? You'll have to let us know how Riley likes the Wild Ocean...do you know what the kibbles look like for the Canine Caviar? |

Now the grainfrees are a bit larger kibbles. They recently changed them apparently. They are similar to Acana, but maybe not as thick. Here's a picture: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater We just bought our first bag to try. I am intrigued by the "science" behind it... not sure it's really any kind of "cancer preventative" like they say, but *shrugs* I really like the low-ash foods (less taxing on the kidneys) and good protein/fat ratios, IMO. Seem pretty knowledgeable with their staff. They've always answered all my questions. They are made at Hi-Tek in Georgia. Quote:
He's always done the best on Acana, so we'll see. I'm definitely not giving it up... just kinda irritated with Acana's recent formula change, smaller bag and price increase. Not that CC is any cheaper  I don't know. Was initially looking for cheaper (Earthborn) and ended up buying CC instead to try. |

Why Is There Ash in Your Dog's Food? Ash is used as a "bucket term" for all the minerals in a formula. Minerals is the residue that doesn't burn, so it's called ash. 5% to 7% is good. 8% to 9% is on the semi-high side. Everything above that is very high and you should start to question the quality of meals and other animal ingredients used. High levels of ash usually indicate high mineral levels (such as calcium, potassium etc) There isn't any definitive standard but, apparently, it is widely accepted that the higher the level the more taxing to the body over time. Most foods don't list the full ash content but instead some select minerals including calcium and phosphorus. It is an indication that the ash level is on the high side if you see ca/ph levels above 1.5%. Here is Acana's: Wild Prairie- 7%, Pacifica-8%, Grasslands- 9%, Ranchlands-9% Lamb & Okanagan Apple is 9%, Duck & Bartlett Pear and Chicken & Burbank Potato have levels of 7.5%. The Canine Caviar Open Sky formula has 5.7%. |

Canine Caviar has a Facebook Page with a few Videos you can watch. |
12lbs isn't the smallest... I bought a 4.4lb bag. They just don't sell them online. Not worth the shipping in most places. |
Hm interesting!! After that whole fiasco with the Duck and Pear I am somewhat nervous to try anything other than Ranchland. I know the Duck and Pear didn’t work out bc it does have the oat in it- Peanut has to have grain/oat free- He has been oat/grain free for a couple years so I have to leave it at that! T- Let me know how this food works for RY, seems like Ry and Peanut can’t handle certain foods.. I still can’t Con DH into letting me try Raw, Esp after the whole Duck and Pear.. He is like “just keep him on the Ranchland” I was even going to get Pacifica and he threw a shi$t fit! Haha I did noticed when I bought a new bag of the Ranchland the kibble is thinner than it normally is- Not sure if that has something to do with them changing the food, but just thought I would let you all know! |

Well I hope he likes it and does well on it. ;) I didn't know that. I need to call the place near me to make sure they sell it and in smaller bags... |
