Allergy Question My little girl (not so little anymore) has been chewing her feet to the point the front two are scabbed. The vet thinks it is allergy to something in the grass and recommended I give her childrens Benadryl. She hates the taste and will not eat the food when it is mixed in. In addition, while I am trying to find a food she likes that will help with a possible food allergy, her weight has gone out of control. Since I no longer make her go outside and use puppy pads, I am thinking this must be more food related. I am at a loss of what to try next. |
What foods have you tried? Are you elimating anything from the foods? Have you talked to your vet? I know many here have pups with food allergies. |
I have tried Royal Canin, Blue Buffalo , and one other I had to buy at a specialty store. My vet seems laid back about it but now that we have weight gain too I think a visit next week is in order. I ordered Fromm and it should be here next week. My fingers are crossed! |
You can buy benedryl tablets instead of capsules. Perhaps you can give it to her directly and not mix it with her food. I don't know what the dosage is for your yorkie but mine can have 12.5 mg every 12 hours. That is half of a tablet. I am using benedryl to help him with reactions he has with his allergy shots. |
On the liquid my vet says 1tsp per 10 lb. That's what was recommended for my girls. It s the children's liquid. I do not know about tablets or capsules. I googled the amount and it shows more than what my vet recommends. You might call your vet to be on the safe side. |
Tablets never occurred to me, thank you so much! It is so sad that she avoids going outside, my little two year old likes to play and since Zoey won't go outside he is left to run the fence with the neighbors dog. |
