Help with Pancreatitis Diet Has anyone had experience dealing with a yorkie recovering from pancreatitis? I need help. Having trouble getting Copper to eat. |
Welcome to YT.:) Yes, many of us have pups that have had pancreatitis. Can you tell us more about what is going on? What symptoms? Was he hospitalized? Still having symptoms aside from inappetance? What food did the vet put him on? Is he drinking? Did the vet give you an idea of how quickly he should start eating? I'm sure they would be happy to. Is he on an antiemetic or nausea? |
Have tried to respond twice, but it says I can't reply to this post? |
Yes he was hospitalized. Has been home for a week. Is on antibiotics, appetite enhancer and anti nausea meds. |
He was sent home with Hill's ID diet but won't touch it. We are in touch with the vet, but was hoping for more input from some of you who have been through this. I am so afraid we are going to lose him. He has lost so much weight. |

Mine went with Purena EN and I decided after a second time to keep him on it permanent. He has not had an incident since. I mix soft and hard kibble for breakfast and dinner and hard kibble for lunch. |
It is canned version. I will ask about the purine. Thanks. |
My dog eats the Royal Canin gastrointestinal low fat kibble and has a high appetite for it. If your vet doesn't carry it, Banfield (inside petsmart) carries it if your vet writes a prescription for it. You could also ask your vet if you can feed a bland home cooked diet for the time being? My dog ate chicken breast and rice when he had pancreatitis. |
Cathy, I have also seen where some were told to feed a high quality ground beef with any fat drained off of it and brown rice. Is that a good diet as well or not? |
Elsy was diagnosed with pancreatitis this morning. If she's better tomorrow I am starting her on royal canin gastrointestinal low fat can food. |

I haven't tried the brown rice. I will try that tomorrow and will ask about the Royal Canin. Thanks so much for your input. |
