Human Probiotics? I'm starting to think Layla's belly problems are from the antibiotics she was on for twice a day for a little over a week (she had LP surgery). Can you give dogs human probiotics? |

I don't see why not... probiotics work quicker than yogurt. I get dog probiotics from Nature's Farmacy online : Nature's Farmacy - Store - Product Details= |
I use a product called 'Superjuice for Dogs'. The breeder sent along a little bottle when I got Emy and I've been using it for a month now. You just spray it over the kibble, she loves it and her poops are good and have been good since I got her ..she's now 15 weeks old. Their website is: www.petsuperjuice.com I bought a larger size on Amazon so I would have it when I ran out of the little bottle. It works great. check out their website. |
Yes, you can use "human" probiotics on a dog...and sometimes it is preferable to use human "supplements" because some are at least checked for consistency - FDA...who regulates dog supplements? Always good to double check with the vet or someone in the know. |
my three are currently on antibiotics. My Lillie has a very sensitive belly. the vet told me to give her 1/4 table of pepcid once a day. I am also adding fortiflora (probiotic) to their food. I split the package between all 3 of them. seems to be working fine. I hope she's feeling better soon |
When I first started probiotics with my wheaten terrier I used the acidophilus capsules from CVS and sprinkled one on her food everyday. We had such good results many of her other problems (ear infections, overreaction to flea bites, anal glands, bad skin smell.. all resolved) Now I make sure their food has it in the ingredients- the yorkies have never had a sick day! I take it every day- why not my dogs! |
Thanks all! Going to go get some today! |
human probiotics for sure!!! I've been giving human probiotics for 3 years now..it takes a good month to see full results, I give it to both my yorkies every morning in a bit of mashed sweet potatoe. I use Jarrow-Dophilus+FOS Powder 6 benificial strains, 12 billion per gram. It has to be refridgerated, which tells you it's fresh. I also like this because it doesn't contain wheat, its in a powdered tapioca base....they also make a canine version, but it has wheat in it and my yorkies started having tummy problems again so I went back to the human version. They each get the infant does, which is 1/8 teaspoon. Here in California its at a healthfood store for $18.89 but it lasts 3-4 months for 2.5 oz bottle. My male yorkie has a digestive disorder but now rarely needs medication and my female use to have bad gas, an this has also fixed her problem with that.:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

I also like Benebac (the powder or the paste) for when it's more urgent to populate the GI w/ flora. |
