My little puppy likes to chew on his poop :(.... Polo <- my puppy yorkie, 10 weeks old. He likes to eat his poop....i am potty training him in a cage, custom built it to a cage that looks exactly like the modernpuppies.com potty training cage. And i can't leave the poop in there for more that 10 seconds or he will be chewing on it ....:(.... I heard that there are ways to stop puppies from doing that. But do not know how to stop it. Please some advice :) Im love it when he kisses me, but his breath stinks sooooo much lol. Thanks again :animal-pa |
I've heard feeding them pineapple could help stop them from doing that I'm not sure though how much to give ... Is there any way to not potty train him in a cage like maybe take him out side or on a pee pad? Usually puppies /dogs won't go where they sleep hope you get more info and good luck potty training :) |
Pineapple helped us. Get the chunks and give one twice a day and see if it helps. The supplements didn't help a bit. |
The dog whisper did a show on this. You might be able to do a google search to find it. Basically he found that the dog he was working with liked bananas and he would feed the dog a bit of banana in the middle of where there was poop then he picked it up and offered it and when the dog refused he then feed it more banana. Supposedly they are missing a mineral in their diet (according to him) and that is why the dog eats poop. Hope that helps. I've been watch just about every show of the dog whisper to prepare myself for a new Yorkie. :D |
Thank you so much everybody :) Just to clarify about the cage training, it has a divider in the cage so i cut a door in the divider of the cage so there are two rooms. Because he doesnt go potty in his bed, he will go potty on the right spot. I tried to get him to go potty outside too...but its not happening lol. I will keep on trying until it works :) and i will get some pineapple today to see how it goes :) I really appreciate the help. thanks!!! |
Are you training the pup to potty some where other than in the cage? |
Sorry to tell you, the only reliable method to curtail a poop-eater is to pick it up before he has a chance to snack. |
