Hamoth, that's your choice, those vials of Albuterol it's completly sealed and sterile, it comes about 20 vials in the box(each contains about 1-2 ml of fluid), after you use one, you discard it, so I have about 10 of them left (brand new, sealed and steril) and nobody saying you don't need to go and see Vet. This treatment gave me a Vet MD., and I just explained what happened to my dog because she had the same problem with coughing., and of cause you can check with your vet before this treatment, for my dog this was the only thing that helped. And I think I have a rights to tell other people because I just trying to help.

No need to feel insulted or anything, I'm not tryingto silence you. Just wanted to raise the possibility that giving prescription medicine to your pup is a bad idea unless the treatment has been...well...prescribed!

The main reason that a good qualified medical opinion is called for is that a chronic cough can be casued by lots of different things, each responds to a different treatment. By trying detailed medical treatments using prescription medicines without knowing the true cause of the cough, you could further hurt your pup. In this specific thread, the OP reported that their dog has been diagnosed with CT (Collapsed Trachea). I would not subject such a dog to bronchial dialators in a contained environment designed for concentrated delivery of such drugs without first knowing the extent, degree, and nature of the collapsed sections of the pup's throat.

The risks involved include:

Additional collapse events due to stress.

Possible overdose. Different dogs have different wieghts and varied abillity to obsorb drugs. Overdose with this drug is pretty easy. Here's what an overdose will do:

In small dogs, overdose will cause a heart attack rather easily and use of this drug is quite risky. Your vet held out for this treatment until the very end for that reason.

Eye, nose and throat irritation leading to additional collapse events
Etc...

You are welcome to post any advice you like and by all means please share your story of treating your pups cough successfully! But please don't give away prescription medicines to people, or recomend them for relief of a cough caused by chronic infection to a dog diagnosed with cough due to CT.

Thanks for all of the helpful information everyone. My Gizmo is getting worse and worse, and I haven't a job or money to get him to a vet again. Gizmo is 11 years old but still looks and acts like he is two.
