Loose stool, need help please Bentley is nine months eats purina puppy dry food, this is the third time in four months with loose stool, no blood he's acting normal just loose stool. I took him to the vet the first time nothing wrong with him just a little fever is all they found tried beef and rice no help pure pumpkin only temporary help then back to being loose again how can I help my little buddy? I will take him to the vet again this week but I thought I would try to get any info I can. I will do anything for the little guy that I can! please help |
I would try switching Bentley's food...Purina's formulas aren't very good...full of fillers like corn and soy and by-products that are not good for dogs. I'd probably try something with limited ingredients for sensitive pets. I like grain-free if your pup will tolerate it but having something like oats/barley/millet would be just fine. Acana has some very good formulas with not too many ingredients. Something from their singles line like the Duck and Pear or Lamb and Apple formulas might be worth looking into...they have only a single protein source and a single grain source. Did your vet not suggest any type of diet aside from the beef and rice? |
Plain boiled chicken & rice would be best w/added insoluble fiber like slightly cooked carrots or frozen green beans. Eliminate all treats during this time. Bentley is 9 months old, so you should transition him very slowly (14 days) to a new premium adult food, grain free preferably. Make sure the 1st 5 ingredients contain a meat source & is higher up on the list, as that makes up the bulk of the food. Some dogs are allergic to some grains like wheat, corn, or soy...it will cause loose stool if they're allergic to a certain food. Best Grain Free Dog Foods Has he been tested for parasites? |
Bentley Yes they didn't find any, I will try the adult dog food transition thanks for the advice |
My Rosie has problems with different foods. She was eventually diagnosed with IBS. Science Diet I/D worked well for her. I now home cook for her and she has done great with it! If you pup continues to have problems after a food change I would go back to the vet. |
