Freezing Jars of Baby Food Carrot/Sweet Potato I was just wondering if one can freeze baby food veggies that are store bought to give to our lil ones? I purchased a small jar of carrots and small jar of sweet potatoes and they are only good for up to three days in the fridge once opened. Also for a 7 lb yorkie what would be the max to give them a day of this baby food....Lil' Miss Izzie loves her fresh baby carrots, but I didn't have any in my fridge and thought that this would tempt her taste buds....she does like it as I mix a small amount of it in her kibble 1x day. :animal36:animal36 |
Yes you can. I used to make my children's baby food when they were babies and I would put it in ice cube trays and take out what I needed for the day to defrost (cube by cube) early in the day. You could also use something like tupperwear or anything that is good for the freezer but then again you would be defrosting more than you need. I really like the ice cube trays. |
Thanks Crystal...this is good to know...I have a small silicone bone shaped dog bone tray that if I can find where I put it  I can use....that way I can just give her one or two at a time for treats.... :animal36 |
You're welcome hun. |
Good advice! I have done something similar with canned dog food since it takes us a while to get through a regular sized can! |
You can freeze the baby food. You can put a portion in a snack size zip top baggie. |
Ok, question about this - I feel kind of dumb for asking..but I don't really understand...so we can feed our babies human baby food? like the mushed stuff in the glass jars?? Everything I've read says no human food for them (short of like cheese and apples and stuff)... Can you help me understand this? Are there only certain kinds of baby food (like ONLY veggies, or meat and fruit too?); is there a certain brand that's good for them?? This is amazing to me... lol Get my baby in 7 days!!! |
1 Attachment(s) Found my silicone dog bone tray...have the baby food carrots freezing...we will see how she likes them in about an hour.... :xfingers: :xfingers: |

No as a rule stick to dog food but Sweet Pea's yorkie wasn't eating her dry so well so she has been adding some mashed baby food carrots. I hope she doesn't put much in since it is important the kibble does not get soft. Funny thing about carrots the only people food I ever gave my yorkie in the 14 years I had her was those small baby carrots they sell in the produce department and cooked broccoli, both were her treat she loved it so much. |
I'm off to bed and thought I had better some back on and warn anyone that might think a good idea to give the frozen bone to your yorkie. It would be a freaking mess!! Cold ok but freezing cold would not be good for their tummies either. You must defrost. |

I keep a bag of frozen crinkle cut carrots in the freezer and just take a few out every couple of days and put them in a tupperware container in the fridge to thaw out. Then I feed as snacks. |
