New food So last night I bought some new food for my morkie mix some new with old. He hasn't touch it. I tried to give a piece as a treat and he refused it. He is two years old and has probably eating the cheap stuff his whole life. How do get him to accept the new food? |
Well, I've never had any of my dogs refuse food. They love home cooked food and they love kibble. I use Royal Canin for my two younger boys and they go nuts for it. THey like it better than my cooking I think. I am sorry I have no help for you other than maybe you should try a diff food? |
Mine adore their FROMM Chicken a la Veg. What were you feeding before and trying to change to now? |
Which kibbles are you switching from and to? Toki will eat her Fromm kibble plain but really loves it when I add a topper. I use the Stella and Chewys carnivore crunch which is basically freeze dried chicken or duck ( it crumbles easily and smells nummy... To Toki anyway). Sometimes I'll mix a little canned food (just enough to coat). A lot of grain-free and/or premium kibble like Blue buffalo Wilderness, Fromm, Acana, etc are considered to be highly palatable to dogs. I've also heard of some people sprinkling a smidge of Parmesan cheese over the kibble. I enjoy preparing Toki's meals but if you just want to feed straight up kibble, You may just need to keep trying different kibbles to find a brand/ flavor your pup likes. |
Going from purina to nature's recipe. I added some raw baby carrots since he likes those. |

awesome, i am so glad. So just let him eat it like that for about a week and very gradually add in the new food a little each week and he should be fine |

My dogs love venison too, but I rarely buy it because of the cost. I just get it if it's on sale and/or I have a good coupon. |
Some of the less helpful food companies add flavoring and even sometimes sugar to their foods in order to get the pets to eat the food even though is is actually stuffed full of unhealthy ingredients. That is why many people have trouble getting their pets to switch to the healthier pet foods. The dog gets addicted to the flavoring in the cheap stuff. I'm glad your guy decided to eat for you. I hope you have found a better grade of food for him. |
