Has anyone ever used ANGEL EYES? I was wondering if anyone had ever used ANGEL EYES? Thor has such bad tearing stains and no matter how much i was his face i can never seem to get him "clean". I've taken him to the vet and everything checks out ok but the tears continue. I just wanted to know if anyone would recommend this product or maybe some other remedy. Thanks! |
Megan has always had bad, red tear stains and a wet face but a couple of months ago I started giving them distilled water to drink. Her face is now dry and the tear stains are gone. :) I also changed her diet to grain free kibble and raw food...with those changes she is like a new dog! |
i tried the angel eyes for my shih tzu but it didnt seem to help her. however , i changed to grain free diet and spring water and it seems to be helping |
I have.. and the results were great!! Bailey is a white shihtuz and had a lot of stains. But... (why must there always be a but???) I talked Lisa into using it for her Curri (sugarmamma) and she did some research. Not so good:confused: I still use it but just maybe once a week . I did ask the vet, I was told it was not something to use over long term. |
Some people are against it because it does contain the antibiotic Tylan and they don't think this should be used for cosmetic reasons. However, sometimes the tearing comes from a low grade infection, and the antibiotic can clear it up. I wouldn't use it long term though, and the people who say it works, say the results are fairly immediate. Joey had really bad tearing after a food switch, you want to make sure something in the food isn't causing the tearing. Here's some more information on tearing causes and cures. Not a day I come on YT I don't learn something, such as today & why not to use this product. |
my vet told me it blocks the tear ducts so they don't tear. doesn't seem natural to me.... |

Just want to add that the active ingrediant of Angle Eyes is Tylan. Some people use Tylan powder instead of Angle Eyes, not sure if that's safer, you might want to ask your vet. Here's some more information about Tylan: Quote:

Tylan is very, very bitter. Angel eyes mixes it with something more palatable, because Tylan it makes their food taste so bitter. I loved Angel Eyes, and it did work, but then I started researching to come up with a better solution. I too went grain free. I use food that contains no beet pulp. My guys drink Gerber baby water (Walmart, water section, $1. per gal.). I now have no issues, and have discontinued Angel Eyes. My white Shih Tzu no longer obsessively scratches her ears or body. Her feet, mouth, genitals, and eyes are now perfectly white. Her eyes no longer weep. It's nothing short of a miracle. |

Some dogs are prone to food allergies, yeast based ear infections, or even teething problems. This causes an inflammatory reaction, which in turn upsets a dog's PH balance. The result is a breeding ground for red yeast. Basically, the bad bacteria in the gut kills off the good bacteria. This happens in humans too. The standard vet cure is a low dose 10 day cycle of tetracycline, which again balances the GI tract. The active ingredient in Angel Eyes is Tylosin (similar in structure to Erythromycin). It is a Macrolide Antibiotic, meaning it does not kill bacteria but controls it's growth. It is prescribed to treat gastrointestinal tract infections. Even though the amount of Tylosin in Angel Eyes is small, I would never use it long term. It is meant to use short term to restore the balance between the good and bad bacterias. When that happens, the red yeast dies, and no more tear stains. Dogs with yeast smell terrible and they often itch like crazy. I can understand someone may not want to use an over the counter product like Angel Eyes. Please at least try a grain free diet and the distilled water to rule out the food allergy first. I hope this helps. |

I never used angel eyes on my Yorkie, but have on my Maltese and both of my Bichons. It works great, but has a very bitter taste and it's a little hard to get them to eat it. I usually try to wrap the dose in a piece of lunch meat or cheese. If you sprinkle in on food they will not touch it. Possibly a pill pocket might work. It also works very fast so you won't have to give it for very long. Also wanted to mention that it's important to use Stainless Bowls. No Ceramic. The stainless bowls help with not getting stains. Good luck!!:aimeeyork |
Mia's sister has a white face and has tear stains, she asked the vet about using that and she told her NOT to use it...don't remember why, but she did. |
